How old is Pavi in Avatar: Seven Havens? Aang was 12, Korra was 17 — the new Avatar is younger than both
Every Avatar show has opened by telling you how old its lead is, because the age is the premise. This one sets a franchise record on that count before it gets to anything else.
Pavi is nine. She's an earthbender from Ellora, a canyon city, voiced by newcomer Saheli Khan, and she finds out she's the Avatar on screen rather than arriving with the job already attached. She's also the first Avatar lead who is an amputee — her left leg is missing, replaced with a rough prosthetic — and the first with a twin, Nisha (Aishu Devan), who the world initially mistakes for the Avatar and who is treated as the more powerful of the two.
The comparison the franchise keeps inviting
The three leads are not really being measured at the same point in their lives, which is the part most of the comparisons skip.
- Aang — 12 — told he was the Avatar at 12 rather than the customary 16, ran, and spent a hundred years in an iceberg. Chronologically 112 when Katara chips him out.
- Korra — 17 — the series opens on her arrival in Republic City at 17, but she knew at four. The flashback in episode one is a toddler bending three elements at White Lotus officials.
- Pavi — 9 — the youngest at the point the story starts, and younger than Aang was at the point of finding out.
So Pavi is not the youngest Avatar ever to learn what she is. Korra holds that one comfortably. Pavi is the youngest an Avatar series has ever asked an audience to follow.
Why nine, specifically
The show is built around the Avatar being hated rather than wanted, which makes the protagonist's inexperience load-bearing rather than cute.
Michael Dante DiMartino has described Pavi as "an underdog" in "a world that despises the Avatar," and the series as "more of a mystery show than the last two."
A nine-year-old cannot argue with 225 years of accumulated blame, cannot out-bend anything, and has no institutional backing — the White Lotus, the Air Nomads, Republic City and the Four Nations are all gone. What she has is an airbender named Jae (Major Curda), a cat-monkey called Geet, and a twin with an unexplained history.
The casting and the design behind her
Pavi is coded South Asian, and Bryan Konietzko has been direct about why.
"The concept and even the word 'avatar' all come from Indian culture and tradition and Sanskrit. It was very deliberate with Seven Havens to code Pavi as a South Asian-inspired character," Konietzko said in 2026.
The production leans on that framework beyond surface design: commentators have mapped Pavi onto Kalki, Vishnu's tenth avatar, who appears during the Kali Yuga to restore order. The art direction pulls from Mœbius and 1990s anime, with animation handled by the French studio La Chouette Compagnie rather than a Korean house.
What that means for the show's shape
Book 1 runs 13 episodes, with 26 ordered across two books. Paramount+ drops three on October 9, 2026, then three more on the 16th, 23rd, and 30th. DiMartino and Konietzko created it, Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi executive produce, and Jeremy Zuckerman is back on music.
A nine-year-old also means the franchise has room. Korra's arc ran four books and ended with her at 21. If Seven Havens gets its full 26 episodes and any of the sequels Avatar Studios has signaled, Pavi has more growing left than either predecessor started with.
For the record: the oldest Avatar to learn the truth in canon is Kyoshi, who found out in her forties in the novel The Rise of Kyoshi. The gap between her and Pavi is roughly thirty-five years, which is a wider spread than the franchise gives itself on almost anything else.
