Is Avengers: Secret Wars about to be delayed? A new filming rumor has fans betting on 2028
A rumor, clearly labeled: nothing here is confirmed by Marvel. But the math the fans are doing with it checks out uncomfortably well.
Let's mark this properly: this is a RUMOR. Insider DanielRPK reports that Avengers: Secret Wars might not start filming until February 2027. He's not the first: per TechRadar's roundup, scooper Apocalyptic Horseman flagged a roughly two-month slip to January 2027 first, with DanielRPK and Alex P echoing. Marvel and Disney declined to comment when TechRadar asked.
The film's release date, meanwhile, hasn't moved: December 17, 2027. Which is exactly the problem r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers has with it:
"So May 2028 and everything else gets bumped back. You can't shoot, edit and add CGI a movie of this scale in less than 10 months."

The top-voted verdict in the thread is shorter:
"Yeah, there's no shot this makes it to next December."

Why the rumor is easy to believe
The circumstantial file is thick. Doomsday's reshoots are being prioritized ahead of its December 18 release, per TechRadar — the crew is busy finishing movie one of two. Secret Wars has already moved twice, from May 2026 to May 2027 to December 2027. And back in July, Anthony Russo described the production timeline in words that read differently now:
"So soon it makes us sweat a little bit."
— Anthony Russo, in July 2026, on when Secret Wars cameras would roll
The optimist case exists inside the same rumor mill: Apocalyptic Horseman himself says a release delay isn't inevitable, sketching a shoot that wraps in late April or early May 2027, leaving seven to eight months of post. For comparison, Doomsday is getting over a year between wrap and release — the compressed version would make Secret Wars the fastest-turned Avengers film ever, for the biggest one.

What a slide to 2028 would actually mean
This is where the stakes stop being fan impatience. Marvel Studios has released at least one movie every calendar year of its existence except two: 2009 and 2020. A Secret Wars move into 2028 would make 2027 the third — in the year Disney has reserved for closing out the entire Multiverse Saga.
Marvel has gone a full year without a theatrical release twice: 2009 and 2020. Losing December 2027 would make it three.
The knock-on effects are already scheduled: Ghost Rider, X-Men, and Black Panther 3 all sit in 2028, and an Avengers-sized cuckoo landing in that nest moves everything. Until Marvel says a word — and so far it hasn't — the December 17, 2027 date stands, with the fans' money quietly on the other side of the ledger.
