Is Lenore Dove Lucy Gray Baird’s Daughter? Hunger Games Prequel Theory Explained

Suzanne Collins’ Sunrise on the Reaping might be directly connected to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes — there’s a subtle indication that fans think is a solid proof.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is moving forward with its movie adaptation’s production, having just cast Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak for the roles of young Haymitch Abernathy and Lenore Dove respectively.
The new prequel will see its events unfolding somewhere in between The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and The Hunger Games’ timeline, now centring on the story of Haymitch’s participation and eventual win in the 50th Hunger Games.
Still, even with new characters now taking the stage, there’s still one way that Sunrise on the Reaping connects to the previous prequel — and fans think they figured it all out without Suzanne Collins unveiling the secret.
How SOTR’s Lenore Dove Relates to TBOSAS’s Lucy Gray Baird, Explained
Though Lenore Dove’s origins are a mystery to her as well, it’s well known that her full name at birth was Lenore Dove Baird and she was later raised in the Covey’s house which, in its turn, belongs to the Covey relatives of Lucy Gray Baird.
Lenore Dove’s mother died when she was born, her father is never mentioned, and there’s no indication of who her parents might be.
However, when Lenore Dove dies, she’s buried in the Covey’s secret graveyard next to Lucy Gray and the latter’s cousin Maude Ivory Baird, which suggests she is somehow connected to either of them, most likely even being Lucy Gray or Maude Ivory’s daughter.
What Fans Think About Lenore Dove’s Origins
Even with Lenore Dove’s backstory being shrouded in mystery for some purpose, The Hunger Games’ fans are convinced they already solved the puzzle, debunking a theory about Lenore Dove being Lucy Gray and Coriolanus Snow’s daughter.
“Lucy Gray and Snow are never mentioned to have any relations of that nature. There wouldn't be a graphic description of it because it's a YA novel, but at the bare minimum, it would've been briefly mentioned or hinted at”, Redditor st3otw said in a thread, also highlighting that the only possible options are Lucy Gray’s cousins Maude Ivory and Barb Azure.
“Barb azure is immediately out of the picture. not just because she dated a woman (she very easily could've been bisexual) because there's no tombstone for her in the covey's graveyard, and lenore dove's mother died in childbirth. this leaves maude ivory baird, who likely mothered lenore dove baird”, they continued.
Looks like other fans also support the theory.
“Maude Ivory makes sense, she would have been 33 at the time if she had Lenore. She died as well and Lenore’s mom died during childbirth. It would make sense also that she would want her named after Lucy Gray , but keeping it different enough by naming her Dove”, Redditor tiredofbeingmad added to the theory.
