Having made tens of highly acclaimed movies in the recent several decades, Martin Scorsese has quite a handful of other projects to come to the big screens, but some of the most anticipated ones might not arrive as soon as everyone expected.
Particularly, fans of the former American rock band “Grateful Dead” have been following closely the news about Scorsese’s planned biopic ever since 2021 when the project was announced.
However, the director has been confirmed to direct several more features in the upcoming couple of years, and a major star from one of those has recently revealed that filming is just about to start.
Is Martin Scorsese Still Directing the “Grateful Dead” Movie?
The news about the director helming a biopic about the band first emerged back in November of 2021, but since then there has been no sign of the film actually getting into development.
Scorsese himself never said anything either, but instead suggested he had more interest in other projects at a time, with those including a historical drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio as well as a possible movie about Jesus.
However, the “Grateful Dead” film one of Scorsese’s most anticipated movies that haven’t happened yet, not only because it promotes to bring the legendary band’s story to the big screen, but also because the future movie will reunite Scorsese with actor Jonah Hill for the first time since their collaboration on 2014’s The Wolf of Wall Street.

The director’s list of possible future movies goes beyond the “Grateful Dead” project and includes several more exciting features, which probably means Scorsese isn’t yet ready for making a biopic — instead, he’d rather direct a fantasy movie first.
As it was reported by Deadline back in September, the filmmaker is making preparations to direct What Happens at Night, an adaptation of the ghost novel of the same name written by Peter Cameron.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are set to star as a couple who travel to a small European town to adopt a baby, but, as they check-in in a mysterious hotel, they realise they might not know each other that well.
As Jennifer Lawrence revealed in a recent interview with IndieWire, she hears the shooting for the movie starts next winter.
“Hopefully, a January/February situation. But one never knows with these things. I’ll believe it when I’m there. We’re going to dig in”, the actress said.
