‘It: Welcome to Derry’: Teddy Uris’ Story Sets Up a Dark Connection to Stephen King’s “It”
Stephen King’s new adaptation delivered a shocking plot twist in its first season’s pilot episode, and Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise isn’t even there yet.
The long wait is now over for the fans of Stephen King’s “It” novel, though even for them the introduction to It: Welcome to Derry’s first instalment might have been a little bit too shocking.
Coming as a prequel series for 2017’s It and 2019’s It Chapter Two, It: Welcome to Derry expands Stephen King’s story about a small town haunted by an evil clown that returns every so often to torture yet another child.
The show’s first episode aired just hours ago on HBO Max, introducing the viewers to a group of Derry’s kids, including Teddy Uris who ends up having no luck against evil forces by the time the episode ends.
However, the character’s brief appearance in It: Welcome to Derry might be just a lead to a bigger revelation.
Who Is Teddy Uris in ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ & How He Connects to Stephen King’s “It”?

Portrayed by young actor Mikkal Karim-Fidler, Teddy Uris is one of the protagonists in It: Welcome to Derry’s first episode and a friend of Matty, a boy whose disappearance pushes Derry’s citizens to try and find him.
Even though Teddy Uris is a completely new character in the “It” universe, there was something peculiar that he reveals about himself not long before his shocking death in the movie theatre scene.
As Teddy comes back home from school where he’s constantly bullied, it’s explicitly implied that his family are Jewish — a characterisation that leaves no doubts for “It”’s fans that Teddy is somehow connected to the original novel’s protagonist, Stan Uris.
The relation between the two characters will likely be explored further in HBO’s new series that, apart from the novel’s story itself, focuses on several major events which happened prior to the ”It” main plot.
‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Creators Promise “No One Will Be Safe” in Season 1 Further Episodes

It’s safe to say the pilot’s gory plot twist wasn’t something that even Stephen King’s fans with the strongest stomachs expected, but it all might have just been a beginning.
As It: Welcome to Derry’s creators Andy and Barbara Muschietti revealed ahead of the show’s premiere on Sunday, killing off three out of five protagonist kids in the first episode was intended as a sign for something much worse coming later.
“Yeah, it’s exactly as you said, you want to create an event that gives the audience a sense that if these kids were smoked at the end of the first episode, nothing is sacred. In this world, no one will be safe. So, technically, that was the intention”, Andy Muschietti said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
It: Welcome to Derry’s next episode is coming to HBO Max on October 31.
