After becoming the new co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn is going to completely reboot the DC Universe — and he recently revealed his first steps in that direction.

James Gunn is on a mission, and his mission is not of the easy kind. The famous director has overtaken DC Studios, and he wants to turn the tables.

While DC has always been known to have amazing animated movies and underwhelming for the most part live-actions, Gunn intends to bring the golden era of DC movies with him.

James Gunn doesn’t want to simply continue Zach Snyder’s legacy but build his own, and after finishing what his predecessor started, the director is completely rebooting the DC Universe to begin anew.

The new DCU is bound to avoid the mistakes of the past and offer a fresh take on DC Comics adaptations.

These plans are set in stone, but the question that everyone’s been needing the answer to is… What will mark the beginning of DCU? With the number of projects that needs to be finished in the current version of DC, there needs to be a line that distinguishes the old DCEU from the new, 100% Gunn-made DCU.

Recently, the director addressed this on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast.
James Gunn revealed that while the first DCU movie will be Superman Legacy (the subject of oh so many speculations as the movie will feature a new Man of Steel actor), Clark Kent won’t be the first DCU character to enter the arena.

Instead, it will be Blue Beetle as some of the rumors circulating previously suggested.

Gunn’s confirmation of Blue Beetle becoming the first DCU character implies quite a few possibilities in itself. Does Jamie Reyes’ superhero get somehow transported to DCU? Will it be one of the consequences of Ezra Miller ’s Flash messing up the multiverse, time-space, and all that good stuff? Or will Blue Beetle suddenly change?

There are no answers to these questions just yet, and it would be pointless to even throw them at Gunn now.

These days, the director has decided to stop addressing rumors and scoops the way he used to, so now we should just take his word and leave it at that. But at least we can be sure of what will mark the beginning of DCU!
