Ortega fans can no longer expect her in the Scream franchise — but here’s a list of her other big projects you can look forward to instead.

Before shows like Netflix ’s You and Wednesday turned Jenna Ortega into an obvious star of the moment, she had a decent start towards overall acclaim, landing a recurring role in a slasher franchise Scream.

Things have changed radically since then, and Ortega’s scandalous and unexpected exit from Scream became the point of no return for both the franchise and herself. However, there’s still a lot to expect from the actress in the upcoming couple of years, so you might want to mark your calendar (even if you’ll miss her like crazy in Scream 7 next year).

Wednesday Season 2 (2025)

It’s been a long time coming, but Netflix’s hit mystery comedy with Jenna Ortega in the leading role is still planning to drop its second season sometime this year.

Coming off the enormous success of the first instalment, the continuation was expected to arrive back in 2024, though it might have been the series of Hollywood strikes that thwarted the plans.

Wednesday’s season 2 will see the return of Ortega’s titular character to Nevermore Academy for more supernatural occurrences and shocking discoveries.

Klara and the Sun (TBD)

Directed by Taika Waititi, the dystopian sci-fi movie based on a 2021 book of the same name will star Ortega as Klara, an “Artificial Friend” created to console those in need of a company.

Judging by the original book, the upcoming film will mostly revolve around Klara’s relationship with Josie, a sick little girl, here portrayed by Mia Tharia; the star-studded cast also includes Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne, Simon Baker and Steve Buscemi.

Hurry Up Tomorrow (2025)

Written by The Weeknd and based on his newest album of the same name, Hurry Up Tomorrow stars the singer as himself trying to escape a mental breakdown, but instead falling into complete madness and existential surreality after encountering a mysterious stranger.

Jenna Ortega is set to appear as a character called Anima, though nothing else is known about the actress’ role.

The movie, which also stars Barry Keoghan, will premiere in theatres worldwide on May 16.

The Gallerist (TBD)

In The Gallerist, Jenna Ortega is set to star opposite Natalie Portman and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, with the movie itself following a gallerist conspiring to sell a dead body at Miami’s Art Basel.

Directed by Cathy Yan, the film is yet to receive its release date, but will likely premiere earlier next year.

J.J. Abrams’ Untitled Movie (TBD)

The actress has been long attached to Abrams’ mysterious film, some pretty compelling details about which were unraveled by Ortega herself just a couple of days ago.

Talking about her career plans with The Cut, the actress revealed she was about to start filming Abrams’ next project which, according to her, will be based on a “script with some fantasy elements”.

Glen Powell is also rumoured to star in the movie, the release date remains unknown yet.
