Jennifer Coolidge Explains Why Tanya Died in ‘The White Lotus’: “Many Reasons”

Tanya McQuoid-Hunt played by Jennifer Coolidge, is one of the most iconic personalities in The White Lotus. And it was truly devastating to lose such a fun and quotable character back in Season 2.

Why Did Tanya From ‘The White Lotus’ Die?

Coolidge shed light on why her character met such a dramatic end in her Variety interview.

“Mike was looking for a big Italian opera ending, and it was big and dramatic, so he wanted me to die for many reasons. I also think Tanya’s a lot. Maybe people would get sick of her on another season. Maybe people would be like, ‘Oh, my God. Get rid of Tanya!’” Coolidge revealed.

But could Tanya still make The White Lotus return? Coolidge suggested the hilariously dark alternative future for the character by saying:

“But if Tanya could come back in any form, maybe she could come back as a seagull and poke Greg's eyes out.”

How Did Tanya Die in ‘The White Lotus’?

Tanya, already feeling isolated and betrayed, discovered duct tape and rope in Niccoló's bag. This sent her into a panic. She grabbed Niccoló's gun and shot him along with Quentin and Didier. She attempted to escape the yacht by jumping to a nearby boat, but slipped, hit her head on the way down and drowned.

“Good shows kill off great characters. This is the perfect ending for such a silly character, if this was real, I feel like this would be a possible death scenario for Tanya,” Redditor Automatic_Soup_9219 pointed out.

“​​The way in which she died though, that was 100% on point for her stupidity. She could have just stayed on the boat till the morning. Used someone's phones to call the authorities. Pretty much anything other than try to jump to a smaller boat which she has no skill in driving,” another fan, stalking-brad-pitt on Reddit said.
