Jennifer's Body May Get a Sequel, but Fans Will Only Accept It Under One Condition

The now cult horror was misunderstood at the time of its release due to a poor advertising campaign. It seems like the perfect time to revive the story, but fans have their own demands.
In retrospect, it seems that screenwriter Diablo Cody and director Karyn Kusama were ahead of their time: at the time of its release, the postmodern revenge thriller Jennifer's Body was not understood by the public.
Today, the body horror film starring Megan Fox is seen not only as one of the most radical and original films of the 2000s, but also as a powerful statement about the body and corporeality.
Not surprisingly, there has been speculation that Jennifer's Body might get a sequel, either in the form of a feature film or a series.
Amanda Seyfried Hints Jennifer's Body Sequel Is In Development
At the Toronto screening of her new film Seven Veils, Amanda Seyfried, who played Needy in Diablo Cody's film, hinted that a sequel is in development:
“I think we're making another one. I didn't confirm it! I said, ‘I think’, (she winks). We're working on it, we're working on it.”
Before that, Diablo Cody herself and Megan Fox expressed their opinion that Jennifer's Body deserves a sequel. Apparently, we should expect official news about the continuation of the story about the possessed high school girl in the near future.
Fans Only Want to See a Sequel if Diablo Cody Is Involved in It
Although the news that Jennifer's Body may finally get the recognition it deserves in the form of a sequel has delighted fans, they are cautious about the idea.
Many believe that a new project should only happen if the film's main visionary, writer Diablo Cody, returns to the project. Redditor Neat_Cardiologist451 wrote:
“I’m only trusting it if Diablo Cody is back because I thought the first one ended perfectly.”
Given the writer and director's previous comments, it's entirely possible that she'll be at the helm of the new story. Especially since her last project, Lisa Frankenstein, was a hit with horror-comedy fans – viewers gave it an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now Is the Perfect Time for Jennifer's Body Sequel
Jennifer's Body is an underrated horror comedy that still has great potential. The film failed because of a bad ad campaign: from posters that ambiguously said "she's evil...and not just high school evil" to images of sexualized Megan Fox.
It seems that now that The Substance, which also mixes body horror with fem-optics and sexualizes its main character to achieve the opposite effect, has won an Oscar, there could not be a more perfect time for stories like Jennifer's Body.
