Is that a call for another spinoff?

Summary:

  • Supernatural was The CW's hit horror mystery TV show that ran from 2005 to 2020.
  • The show has followed the Winchester brothers on a quest of fighting demons and other supernatural creatures.
  • Jensen Ackles, who portrayed the older brother, Dean, has since shared that he wishes the show had explored more of Dean's timein purgatory.

In the 15 seasons that Supernatural has been on the air, there have been so many great storylines and character arcs that even the most loyal fans find it hard to pick a favorite.

With the Winchester brothers traveling all over the country and coming face to face with a wide variety of angels, demons, ghosts, and other supernatural creatures of all kinds, just about every story would deserve to be revisited if there were any way to do so.

However, every viewer, as well as every actor and writer involved in the show, has their definite winners. Jensen Ackles, for example, who portrayed Dean Winchester for all 15 seasons, knows exactly which arc he would like to explore more if only there was a way to go back in time.

Jensen Ackles’ Favorite Supernatural Arc

Even though Jensen Ackles might want to take some time off from the franchise to recharge his creative batteries after the unsettling conclusion of Supernatural's spin-off, The Winchesters, it's almost impossible to escape all the questions surrounding it.

And it just so happens that the actor has the answers that could serve as the basis for new world expansions.

When Ackles was asked about his favorite moments of Dean's journey on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, he pointed to a particular arc in season 7 of the show:

“I would say one that I truly love that I wish we would have gotten to play a bit more with was Dean in purgatory with Benny and Cass. I thought that was – It was just shot differently, it felt different, it was a different kind of world we were in, we were fighting for survival. It was this like this post-apocalyptic feel to it,” the actor shared.

Of course, it's highly unlikely that there could be a limited series with Dean, Ben and Castiel exploring Purgatory together, considering how many years have passed since those episodes were released.

However, just the concept of a full journey into Purgatory with the same post-apocalyptic feel could work wonders on screen.

Unfortunately, there aren't many chances to see spin-offs of The CW's fan-favorite show anytime soon. The network, which is going through a rebranding process, isn't likely to pick up any Supernatural-related pitches at this point.

The only hope for fans are the rumors floating around the web about the possibility of season 16, but even that doesn't seem too realistic at the moment. The good news is that until that happens, you can always watch Supernatural from the beginning on Hulu or Netflix.
