Joe Locke Teases Heartstopper Fans on His Producer Role: 'Going to Regret It'

Heartstopper is getting a movie instead of a fourth season, and Joe Locke will serve as executive producer alongside Kit Connor. Here’s what the Charlie actor thinks of his new role.
The love story of Nick and Charlie will wrap up in a full-length feature film that will land on Netflix, and while it’s not exactly what fans expected for their favorite series, everyone is pretty much excited — including Heartstopper star Joe Locke, who is set to exec produce the upcoming movie.
In fact, he even thinks Netflix bosses will “regret” giving him the new role. In a good way.
“I think that [Netflix and See-Saw, the series’ producers] are going to regret giving it to me because I’m gonna have so much fun with it, but not in a bad way. I’m just really excited to learn everything I can from the experience and take it forward, you know. As an actor, you don’t really get to see much of the behind-the-scenes stuff,” Locke told Gold Derby in an interview.
The actor also noted that Kit Connor, who portrays Nick in the series and also exec produces the upcoming movie, is a “great” partner in their new role.
What Will Heartstopper Movie Be About?
Plot details of the movie are still kept under wraps, but Heartstopper author Alice Oseman shared her own expectations with Netflix Tudum.
“Are Nick and Charlie a forever love? If they are, why? I want the movie to capture this transitional moment for them as a couple — from teens to adults, from teen romance to forever love, from past to future,” she said.
Given that Heartstopper series left off with Nick heading off for Leeds University, and Charlie staying behind for his final year of sixth form, the movie will certainly see the couple taking a step forward into the real world.
When Will Heartstopper Movie Premiere?
The release date for the Heartstopper feature film is yet to be scheduled.
