Don’t miss the actor’s adventures in the heated underworld!

Summary:

  • Back in 2016, Jonah Hill starred in a movie following the duo of arms dealers, sent by the government to run guns during the Iraq War.
  • It mixes crime drama and comedy, and it’s a must-watch for The Nice Guys fans.

In today’s cinematic world Jonah Hill is presumably the main young comedy actor of the 21th century, with his iconic roles in such comedies, as The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) and Superbad (2007) and the notorious 21 Jump Street dilogy (2012, 2014).

What if we take his comedic talent, give his character a funny companion, just like in 21 Jump Street, and let them do unbelievably crazy things in a heated setting? We’ll receive the 2016 comedy, which is also based on real-life events.

The movie’s plot revolves around two troublesome arms dealers, Efraim Diveroli (played by Hill) and David Packouz (Miles Teller), who are sent to the Middle East to supply ammunition for the Afghan National Army during the Iraq War by a U.S. Army contract.

It may sound boring, however, be sure there are lots of high-class jokes impeccably delivered through Hill’s and Teller’s performances. Their buddy chemistry is obvious, and it gets even more amazing, as we see them go deeper in trouble running guns.

The supporting actors definitely add to the duo’s great job, putting more layers to the characters. Here we have Ana de Armas playing Davis’s girlfriend, not knowing about their business, and the acclaimed Bradley Cooper as the powerful arms dealer.

Based on Guy Lawson’s 2011 Rolling Stone article titled Arms and the Dudes, the movie’s story is really reminiscent of the 2005 crime drama Lord of War. Starring Nicolas Cage and Jared Leto, it also follows the two men entering the illegal arms trade.

Hill’s movie, though, stands out because it blends crime elements with buddy comedy, and this mix is done genuinely well. You’ll certainly like it if you’re a fan of Simon Pegg’s Hot Fuzz (2007) and Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling ’s The Nice Guys (2016).

Titled War Dogs, this Todd Phillips’ movie is definitely worth a try, despite its mediocre scores, at least because of the very acting duo.

“Hill and Teller killed it. I'd like to see them in more movies together, said Redditor @walterpinkman45 about them.

Luckily, you'll be able to see them selling guns in the heat very soon, as it’ll become available on Netflix on May 8.
