Kaitlin Olson on High Potential season 3 landing its premiere date after the Super Bowl, February 14, 2027
ABC hasn't aired a Super Bowl in 21 years. Its first move with the new one is handing the post-game slot to Morgan Gillory.
ABC announced it during Monday Night Football on October 12: High Potential will air immediately after Super Bowl LXI on Sunday, February 14, 2027, on ABC and Disney+, with season 3 otherwise rolling out Tuesdays in early 2027 and streaming next day on Hulu. The game comes from SoFi Stadium, it's ESPN's first Super Bowl production ever, and it's ABC's first Super Bowl broadcast since February 2006.
That 2006 date matters, because everyone at ABC remembers what the network did with its last one: it launched a Grey's Anatomy two-part event out of the game, and the post-Super Bowl episode pulled around 38 million viewers, still one of the most famous scheduling wins in network history. Handing the 2027 slot to High Potential is ABC saying which show it thinks is the heir. The network's own promo put it with appropriate subtlety:
"You don't need Morgan's IQ to know this is BIG."

What the slot is rewarding
The resume justifies it. High Potential finished last season as the No. 1 entertainment series on television, with ABC citing 16.01 million total viewers per episode across 35 days of multiplatform viewing. Kaitlin Olson, two decades into It's Always Sunny and fresh off Hacks, turned a French procedural format into the rare network drama that grew into a phenomenon — and Olson announced season 3's production start herself on Instagram, posting that seeing 3s everywhere felt like a sign.

There's even a perfect omen in the archive. Profiling Olson for emmy magazine, her husband Rob McElhenney described what happened when the couple attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans in 2025:
"Surrounded by thousands of people who were coming up and screaming her name."
— Rob McElhenney, to emmy magazine, on Olson at Super Bowl LIX
Two years later, the Super Bowl is coming to her.
The fine print
Two caveats before anyone laminates the date. First, the premiere question is genuinely muddled: ABC's materials list season 3 as returning in "early 2027" on Tuesdays, some outlets describe the February 14 broadcast as a Grey's-style two-part season opener concluding the following Tuesday, while Bleeding Cool reports the Super Bowl hour is a special episode rather than the premiere. Until ABC publishes the full midseason schedule, Valentine's Day is the one date that's locked.

Second, season 3 arrives with a new regime: Nora and Lilla Zuckerman take over as showrunners from Todd Harthan, executive producing alongside Olson, creator Drew Goddard, and Sarah Esberg. The Zuckermans' last job was running Poker Face — so the biggest scheduling platform in American television is about to showcase a case-of-the-week show run by the team whose previous case-of-the-week show got canceled while being its network's most-watched original. Television is not a fair business, but it does have a sense of humor.
The show was held off ABC's fall schedule for the first time ever. The explanation turned out to be the biggest time slot in television.
