Latest Matlock Plot Twist Spices Up Season 1: Brilliant Fan Theory Explains What’s Next

It's time for Madeline Kingston to finally step out of the dark and embrace her true self in front of her new friend to see if there was ever a friendship in the first place.
There are shows that grab you from the very first episode, and CBS's Matlock is one of them. The show premiered in September 2024 and immediately became a fan favorite. Matlock is a legal drama streaming on Paramount+ that follows its titular character, Matty Matlock, who is actually Madeline Kingston under the guise. And the latest plot twist may completely change the game for everyone involved.
But let’s start from the beginning: the woman is in her senior years, and the first episode follows her as she becomes a member of a large law firm called Jacobson & Moore in order to investigate a case that could have prevented her daughter's overdose and future death — and could also have saved hundreds of people.
The thing is, Katy Bates' Matty really was a lawyer back in the day, so she wasn't lying when she practically demanded a job from the seniors at Jacobson & Moore. She quickly became a trusted member of the team, helping to solve some of the most difficult cases. Moreover, she developed a real friendship with one of her prime suspects, Olympia.
Matty and Olympia’s Friendship Makes Things Risky in Matlock
The other two suspects were Olympia's ex-husband, Julian, who also works for the company, and his father, Howard, known as "Senior," who is actually the head of the company. And more than anything, Matty wanted the person who hid the documents in the Wellbrexa case to not be her friend Olympia.
In the last episode, she and her husband Edwin finally crossed her off the list of suspects because they found new evidence that proves Olympia wasn't there to commit the crime they're investigating. And Matty couldn't be happier that she can finally continue to be a good friend to Olympia. But there's a catch...
Olympia Finding Out Matty’s Secret Can Be a Good Thing
The last few minutes of episode 16 feature Olympia saying to Matty that she knows she is hiding something and that she has started sort of a personal investigation to find that out. Basically that means that Matty would have no choice than to tell her the real reason why she entered Jacobson & Moore.
“Well, the writers have now set things up so that once Olympia understands Matty's motive, she'll almost certainly become her ally in resolving the Wellbrexa mystery. From the promo, it looks to me like Olympia will have Matty disclose everything she has learned, to test whether they really do have enough evidence to move forward,” Redditor Obsoleteoldman said.
It will be fun to see the two of them finally working together on Matty's case, and there's hope that with Olympia's involvement they'll discover new leads that will bring them closer to whoever is responsible for the crime. But the only thing we really want is for it not to be Julian as well... because that would mean that Olympia would have to choose between her friend and the father of her children. And that will be a tough one.
