Not much time has passed since Disney’s previous failed remake of Snow White premiered with a bunch of scandals accompanying it. However, the studio might soon be changing its mind about its future classics reboot — just like many already predicted.

The Rachel Zegler-led flopped Disney remake of Snow White seemingly doomed the mouse-house’s live-action movies planned for the upcoming couple of years, but Lilo & Stitch might, unfortunately, bring things back to what they were.

Last month, it was reported that the company’s next remake based on the 2010 hit animated movieTangled’ was put on hold, with Snow White being blamed for ruining Disney’s hopes to make more money off reimagining of the same stories.

At the time, however, some had pretty clear doubts about Disney’s real intention to put all the reboots aside, especially since another potentially successful remake, Lilo & Stitch, was already coming up.

Now that the movie has received its first reviews ahead of the world premiere in theatres this Friday, it seems like Disney is in fact about to get back to its plans after all.

The movie, which is the reimagining of the 2002 animated film of the same name, will hit theatres across the globe on May 23, and there will definitely be sold-outs not just because of all the nostalgia that will drive viewers to local cinemas.

Believed to become one of the best live-action remakes that Disney ever made, Lilo & Stitch has so far been proving it right with all the glorious reviews dropped after the first screenings.

#LiloAndStitch is the BIGGEST SURPRISE of the year and easily the BEST Disney live action remake yet. Dean Fleischer Camp crafts a joyous family adventure that captures the chaos and charm of the original. It’s also OUT OF THIS WORLD HILARIOUS and HEARTWARMING with a star-making performance from Maia Kealoha”, The Movie Podcast’s host Daniel Baptista wrote on X.

“Lilo and Stitch is the best Disney live-action to date. Seeing Stitch in his live-action form on the big screen brings on a huge wave of nostalgia. Tons of laughter and heartwarming moments. The film hits similar beats to the original, as well added something new flavors”, movie critic Wendy Lee Szany also shared on X.

The movie, however, wasn’t just as pleasing to some others, currently holding a little bit less encouraging score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Lilo & Stitch’ First Reviews Seemingly Encourage Disney For More Remakes

The first news about Disney’s decision to shelve some of its upcoming live-action remakes was taken with a grain of salt.

While some celebrated a pretty positive perspective of not seeing uninspiring modern versions of cult classics, others suggested Disney would find an excuse to bring at least Tangled’s reboot back to work after Lilo & Stitch makes millions in the box office.

“Sounds like the live-action remakes Snow White got shelved are about to be unshelved. Sigh….”, Redditor DonnyMox commented in a thread discussing the upcoming movie’s first reactions.

“Please don't encourage them, we've got enough live action adaptations, just give it a rest”, MagicOrpheus310 begged.

“This movie is going to make so much money and Disney is going to keep farting out live action remakes. After the Snow White debacle, some people were saying they Disney would slow down with them. Nah, Lilo & Stitch will birth even more of them”, Daughter_Of_Cain predicted.

Lilo & Stitch is coming to theatres worldwide on May 23.
