Loki to Save the Fantastic Four in First Steps: New MCU Theory Explained

Tom Hiddleston’s villain is believed to be returning in Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, somehow saving the day and everyone else — here’s how fans think tables might turn.
Marvel’s darkest times will likely soon be over with Fantastic Four: First Steps’s approaching release, promising a reimagining of the First Family’s fight for their 1960s-themes universe against Galactus.
Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, the movie itself will become yet another reboot of 1986’s superhero film – though, just like any other Marvel flick, it’s probably not safe from major and pretty unexpected plot twists either.
While there’s still a long wait ahead of First Steps’ premiere in July, Marvel fans are preparing themselves for everything shocking, potentially coming in the movie — including for one of the biggest villains’ return.
Fantastic Four New Plot Twist Theory, Explained
It’s fair to say Marvel has been down for anything not less than just jaw-dropping to get its fans’ trust back after a series of superhero flops — which is the reason why some think Fantastic Four can repeat Avengers: Doomsday’s smart move by bringing someone unexpected back to the screen.
“The Fantastic Four will be a tragic story about how Marvel’s First Family ultimately fails to save their own universe. As their world collapses, Loki intervenes in the final moments, rescuing them and transporting them to the main MCU timeline”, Redditor TheMediocreCritic explained in a thread.
They went on, suggesting that “Loki has taken it upon himself to search doomed universes and broken timelines, recruiting powerful heroes to strengthen the main MCU. He knows a greater threat is coming—Doctor Doom—and he's preparing for war”.
Ultimately, the user also reflected on a possibility for Loki to assemble “a multiversal strike team forged in desperation” aka some sort of his own Avengers team as an even bigger fight is coming.
Marvel Fans Aren’t Ready to See Fantastic Four’s Downfall — but Some Are Fine With It
As expected, the canon’s possible major change garnered the attention of those who want nothing like that to appear in the new version of the beloved story; still, there were others who would go for the most shocking twists and turns.
“Would be ballsy, but I don't think the MCU brass would want to go that dark with the first family. Losing an entire world would irrevocably change the tone of the characters”, abstergo_Nigel replied in the same thread.
User campingn00b agreed, also adding some reasoning by saying that Marvel is “not going to base the entire future of their storytelling on the hope that people watched Loki Season 2”.
Iit really hits hard for Marvel’s First Family. Loki stepping in as a multiversal recruiter is such a cool take especially with him building a strike team to face Doctor Doom. A desperate, timeline-hopping Loki leading his own Avengers squad? Im sold”, Used_Strawberry_6747 put in.
In fact, there were quite many supporters for the whole idea, with Stephaniaelle admitting that “it's like the MCU on steroids, but hey, stranger things have happened in comics!”
When Is Fantastic Four: First Steps Premiering?
The movie is scheduled to be released in theatres globally on July 25, 2025.
