Mark Frost Gives Major Update on ‘Twin Peaks’ Season 4: “It Closed the Circle”

David Lynch’s cult classic show reached the point of no return several months ago — here’s what Twin Peaks’ co-creator said about the series’ future.
Things have been quite shaky for David Lynch’s Twin Peaks for at least the last couple of decades.
Initially released back in 1990, the mystery horror drama starring Kyle MacLachlan quickly moved on to a second season after the first instalment’s immense success with both critics and viewers.
It was then followed by a third season, released almost three decades later in 2017, and since then there was no way for Twin Peaks’ fans to stop speculating about whether David Lynch in fact was planning a reboot or rather a fourth season.
The director’s death this January put his team’s plans on hold, and now there seems to be no reason for the show’s co-creator Mike Frost to embark on a solo journey.
Mike Frost Admits ‘Twin Peaks’ Season 4 Is “Hard to Imagine” After David Lynch’s Passing
Despite the director having left some notes for his colleague to rely on while envisioning a potential fourth season, Mike Frost doesn’t think it will be right to continue with Twin Peaks after Lynch’s shocking death several months ago.
“We had talked a little bit about where a fourth season might go, but with David having left us, it’s hard to imagine doing anything beyond this. It certainly feels like it closed the circle”, the show’s co-creator said in an interview with Empire Magazine, shared by ComicBook.
Apart from that, Frost also added that he personally sees no sense in Twin Peaks’ season 4 since the whole story came to its logical end in the third instalment.
“Initially, David and I were in two minds about how to end The Return. I felt that Cooper going back and rescuing Laura, then having the mystery of her death disappear, might be an extraordinary way to bring us back to ground zero. But David said, ‘He has to pay a price for what he’s tried to do”, Frost stated, calling the final plot twist “the end of this story”.
David Lynch Planned ‘Mulholland Drive’ and ‘Blue Velvet’ Reunion for His Last Project
The director’s untimely death shook the world to the core, making many details about his last months pour out in the media — including the fact that, just a couple of months before passing away, Lynch was working on a mysterious project that would star Mulholland Drive’s actress Naomi Watts and Blue Velvet’s lead Laura Dern.
It was also reported that Netflix was teaming up with Lynch for the project called Wisteria/Unrecorded Night and was about to start production.
“He was not, in any way, done. I could see the creative spirit alive in him”, Naomi Watts revealed in an interview with Los Angeles Times back in March.
