No, it's not Sherlock Holmes, it's something much scarier.

Summary:

  • Mark Gatiss, one of the creators of Sherlock, has directed another Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story, this time a horror one.
  • The 30-minute episode of the annual Christmas anthology tells the story of Oxford students confronted with the mystery of the mummy.

The BBC show Sherlock is a legend of British and worldwide television. The modern adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's detective stories made Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman global stars and sparked a new wave of interest in the timeless English classic.

Sherlock's fourth season ended in January 2017. Since then, the creators have only hinted that they might return to filming, but in reality there has been no talk of Cumberbatch's comeback to the role of the great detective.

In the absence of Sherlock, the showrunners are working on other projects, which also include the BBC and stories based on Conan Doyle.

The whole world fell in love with Mark Gatiss after the release of Sherlock, where he worked as a producer, writer and actor, while Gatiss himself had a lifelong love of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's works. Now Gatiss is turning his hand to Lot No. 249, a horror story by Britain's foremost crime writer.

The short film will be part of an episode of the BBC's A Ghost Story for Christmas anthology, which airs annually on British television during the winter holidays.
