Marvel’s two upcoming big movies are being released later than expected, but not many find it that annoying right now.

It might be a rare thing for Marvel to change plans now that its movies are hitting screens every couple of months, but this time pushing the studio’s biggest projects several months further seems more than reasonable.

So far, the major delay concerned Marvel’s next blockbusters Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with both initially set to arrive in theatres worldwide on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027.

Now, however, the movies have received new release dates of December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027 respectively, and that’s in fact a rare occasion when Marvel’s fans aren’t complaining, and I completely agree.

Why Were ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Pushed Back?

There are several reasons why Marvel had to make a decision to take its time with both movies, and somehow it’s all good news for the fandom and for the franchise.

First, there was no way for neither of the films to finish their respective production on time, with the team realizing that filming and post-production would demand more efforts and time than it was expected initially.

Apart from that, VFX workers won’t need work day and night on the movies’ CGI scenes now that the production period has been extended to several more months.

Besides, December is a perfect time of the year for a major movie drop in theatres. I also can't blame Marvel for not wanting to compete with the Star Wars franchise that is now preparing its The Mandalorian & Grogu for a May 2026 release.

Lastly, Marvel’s fans also hope the delay will allow writers to revise the script and polish the storyline, which is what some of the studio’s previous movies failed to do.

Even though the superhero giant does its best to make its releases even more frequent, it still better not risk its reputation anymore — especially after the 2023 strikes.

Despite expectations, most of the fans had a positive reaction to the movies’ delay, saying that both leading cast and crew will at least have some time to breathe and live their life in between the big releases.

“Great news, was worried about them releasing it one year after filming. Hopefully the 6 extra months will help the VFX team not kill themselves”, Redditor Letsgobroncos wrote in a thread commenting the news.

“Somewhere, Pedro Pascal is elated that no longer will he be doing back to back press tours for Doomsday and The Mandalorian and Grogu. There’s only so much chicken and so many internet games a man can take”, MarvelAlex joked.

“We’re getting….GTA 6 before….Avengers Doomsday?” OrgasmicLeprosy87 chimed in.
