Fans are in a frenzy over such a brilliant casting choice.

Summary

  • Following the final season of Outlander, Starz will present a prequel to the story, Blood of My Blood.
  • The new series is not based on the Gabaldon books, but will still tell the story of Jamie and Claire's parents.
  • The four lead actors were recently announced, and fans are already praising the show's creators for the casting.

Despite the lack of immediate content, it's somehow hard to call Outlander’s current season a Draughtlander period. Yes, the season is drenched in agonizing anticipation, but it can't be described as unambiguously dry. In fact, there are news and updates to keep Outlander fans excited almost every day.

First, Diana Gabaldon is still actively writing the tenth and final novel in the series. Second, filming for Season 8 of the series is about to begin, and the long-awaited Part 2 of Season 7 is scheduled for release in mid-2024. All in all, we have a lot to look forward to, a lot to discuss, and a lot to speculate about.

But even with all that, fans may find themselves even more intrigued, because in January 2024, filming began on a new series that will be a precursor to the time-traveling story: a prequel spin-off called Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will be focused of Jamie and Claire's parents. In addition, we now know the cast that will play the four protagonists of the upcoming show — let's take a look at them and see why fans are calling the casting perfect.

Harriet Slater

As we said, Blood of My Blood will feature Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, and Claire's parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp.

Jamie's mother, according to an update from Starz, will be played by Harriet Slater, an English actress known for her roles in the Batman prequel Pennyworth and the TV series Belgravia: The Next Chapter. The actress also had a small role in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Fans welcomed the news of who would play Jamie's mother, and even noted some similarities between the two.

Jamie Roy

Brian Fraser will be played by another Scottish native from Glasgow, Jamie Roy, known for his roles in Burning Little Lies and Your Boyfriend is Mine.

Many fans have also warmed to the casting director's choice, noting the resemblance between Roy and Sam Heughan.

Hermione Corfield

Another example of phenomenal casting is Hermione Corfield, a much higher profile actress who will play Julia Moriston.

Corfield has starred in big budget blockbusters like Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, XXX: Return of Xander Cage and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but is best known for her starring role in the crime thriller Rust Creek.

Jeremy Irvine

Finally, Claire's father, Henry Beauchamp, will be played by method acting genius and star of the 2011 war drama War Horse, Jeremy Irvine. It looks like we are in for a truly dramatic story that will only be embellished by talented actors.

What Else Do We Know about Blood of My Blood So Far?

Gabaldon is involved in the development of Blood of My Blood as a consulting producer, although the American author noted that her own prequel book is also in development. She will also focus on Ellen MacKenzie, but it is unknown if the story will have anything to do with the new series.

Also, the only prequel to the main series that has been released so far is the Virgins novella about 18-year-old Jamie, but the series will clearly take place before our favorite Highlander was born, as Sam Heughan has stated that he will not appear in the new show.

It's very likely that this will be an original show. Still, it's probably not worth worrying about since we're unlikely to get a failed prequel like Netflix 's The Witcher: Blood Origin. Outlander veterans will be working on Blood of My Blood, including executive producers Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis and Matthew B. Roberts.

The series will consist of 10 episodes and will apparently be released in 2025.
