Maeve steals the show wih her cold temper and brutal decisions, but behind this spectacle lies Harry's subtle game – here's why this calculating and cunning man isn't as loyal to the Harrigans as he seems.

One of the biggest crime hits at the moment is Guy Ritchie 's MobLand, which has a truly stellar cast – Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren.

It is the latter who seems to be the main villain of this story – a true predator, and a perfect match for her husband Conrad. It is Maeve who plans the murders herself and urges Conrad to take decisive action, sometimes even manipulating him.

Harry Is Not as Simple as He May Seem at First Glance

However, fans suspect that the main character of the series, Harry, is not as simple as he seems – his actions subtly suggest that by the end of the first season he may reveal himself from a completely different side. As Reddit user Electronic_Vast_1070 wrote:

“He is collecting information on people and not sharing it with them. [...] The way he had preemptively took the guys phone before it was needed. What else does he know or have? Surely he's not this forward thinking just for the Harrigans sake?”

At first glance, Harry appears to be just a fixer doing the Harrigans' dirty work, but his actions, motivations, and possible hidden agenda suggest that he could be the show's biggest villain.

Harry Is Not Loyal to the Harrigans, He Is Only Loyal to Himself

After five episodes, it has become clear that Harry has much more power in his hands than he lets on. He knows the dark secrets of almost all the Harrigans and fulfills all their demands – but at the same time, he is not treated as a member of the family, and he understands that.

Harry has a troubled past that has tempered his character, and when the time is right, he will be able to stand up for himself – he has enough dirt on the Harrigans to protect himself.

Harry Has Everything to Confront the Harrigans When the Time Is Right

At the end of the fifth episode, Funeral for a Friend, we see Harry sitting on a balcony with a grenade in his hand. This may be a hint that it is Harry who holds the information and tools that can "blow up" and destroy the Harrigan family.

Throughout the first half of the first season, the writers have built up our idea of Harry as a calculating and cunning man, so his arc should naturally lead to a confrontation with those whose orders he is forced to carry out. Redditor Jjbrah-0_0 commented:

“He knows the Harigans would dump him the second he's no longer useful. That's why he's hedging his bets, making side moves of his own. In this business, loyalty gets you killed.”

Crime dramas often explore how power corrupts people. If MobLand is a tragedy of Harry's rise and fall, his transformation into a villain would serve as a perfect commentary on ambition and moral decay, both on his part and on the part of the Harrigans.
