Molly McCann’s Tragic Role in ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’, Explained

The actress has just joined Sunrise on the Reaping’s leading cast. Her character plays a key role in Haymitch Abernathy’s revolt against the Capitol during the 50th Hunger Games. Here’s more on Molly McCann’s part in The Hunger Games’ next prequel movie.
The casting choices are almost set for The Hunger Games’ upcoming prequel titled Sunrise on the Reaping, with several more actors officially joining the dystopian franchise’s universe over the last several days.
Apart from Elle Fanning and Ralph Fiennes who made the fan casting come true once again (long live Sunrise on the Reaping’s casting director), the future movie also got young actress Molly McCann to play one of the essential roles, with the actress now set to star as one of the District 12 tributes opposite Haymitch Abernathy’s actor Joseph Zada.
Despite probably not having much screen time in the movie for herself, McCann’s character will still become one of the key figures in the whole story, eventually prompting Haymitch to ignite his own feud with the Capitol and President Snow himself.
Molly McCann Will Portray Louella McCoy in ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’
Even though some of The Hunger Games’ fans initially thought the characters of Louella McCoy and Lou Lou would get for themselves just one actress, the franchise’s next chapter seemingly isn’t ready to play according to the Capitol’s rules either.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, McCann is now set to portray Louella while Iona Bell will play the character’s Capitol-assigned copy in Francis Lawrence’s upcoming movie.
In Suzanne Collins’ original novel, Louella McCoy is another female District 12 tribute for the 50th Hunger Games on par with Maysilee Donner.
Having lived all her life just three doors away from Haymitch, Louella has known him for much longer than anyone could have thought and at some point even had a crush on him.
Despite Haymitch not reciprocating her feelings, Louella kept calling him her “sweetheart” until one day she just moved on and fell in love with another boy.
However, the nickname “sweetheart” got stuck with her until the very end, with Haymitch referring to her this way to show his sympathy for the girl.
What Happens to Louella During the Hunger Games, Explained (Spoilers Ahead!)
Right after getting reaped for the third Quarter Quell and sent to the Capitol, Louella and Haymitch agree to form an alliance in the arena, though the former doesn’t get to live before that moment anyway.
Louella tragically dies during the tribute parade when the District 12’s chariot is crashed after the horses get intimidated by a sudden firework.
Both Haymitch and Louella were affected by the crash, though Haymitch ended up with no severe wounds while Louella cracked her head open and died instantly.
In fact, it was the latter’s death that affected Haymitch the most, with him trying to make the Peacekeepers stay away from Louella’s body and taking it to the gates of President Snow’s mansion.
After doing so, Haymitch gave Snow a round of applause which implied that Snow was to blame for the death of Louella and many other children who are killed annually during the Hunger Games.
When Is ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ Being Released?
