Okay, Common People was great. But this overlooked episode was so bizarre and Black Mirror-coded that it confused the lead actor himself.

Netflix has dropped another season of Black Mirror and it's everything fans have been hungry for. Now I'm not even mad at waiting for this for 2 years. I'd honestly be willing to wait longer for a project like this.

And while a lot of folks have been praising Common People (Episode 1) for bringing that classic Black Mirror feel, I think that there's another gem who did it better, but for now stands somewhat underrated.

Plaything Is THE British Black Mirror Episode We've Been Craving

Plaything (Episode 4) delivers one of the most engaging and terrifying stories of the whole new season. It is as confusing as it is entertaining.

We follow Cameron (his younger and older versions), a loner whose fixation with a 1990s video game led him into a police interrogation room. A story of a mad genius was never that interesting. It's a subtle, psychological and deeply uncomfortable episode — exactly what I expect from Black Mirror.

If you were confused by the ending, you're not the only one. In an interview to RadioTimes.com, Lewis Gribben (young Cameron) confessed that he was just as puzzled with the ending as we all are right now. He said:

“Even at the read-through, because we read it aloud, all of Peter's stuff with the policeman and the interrogations, I was just like, 'I have no clue what this man is going on about.' And I played the younger version of him, and it's just like, 'I have no clue.'”

What Do Fans Think of Plaything?

  • On IMDb, Plaything is rated 7.4/10. It is one of the lowest-rated episodes of the season.

"I see a lot of articles ranking this episode last, while ranking Common People first, saying "Common People is true oldschool black mirror". Well, these are the only two episodes I've watched so far and I have to say–no, Americans, THIS is oldschool black mirror. Before it became americanised, dumbed down and overly on-the-nose. Great episode. Hope to see more of this in the season and future seasons," Redditor adamd4y wrote.

"People don’t like this episode to the extent that I did and that’s crazy to me. That was in my eyes the best episode since Shut Up and Dance. The concept was crazy, it was executed incredibly and I really liked the ending," Redditor jacket_was_here shared.

Is Black Mirror Season 7 Worth Watching?

I couldn't recommend this new season enough. It really has everything we love about the show.

So if you haven't yet decided what you're watching this weekend, this is your go-to. You can catch Plaything and the rest of Black Mirror Season 7 on Netflix right now. The new episodes deliver that nightmarish sci-fi we've been in love with since Season 1.
