All Quiet director Edward Berger teams with Farrell for macau-set thriller coming this October.

Netflix has unveiled first-look images and release dates for Ballad of a Small Player, Edward Berger's hotly anticipated thriller starring Colin Farrell as a debt-ridden gambler hiding out in Macau's neon-lit casinos. The All Quiet on the Western Front director's English-language debut will hit UK cinemas on 17th October before streaming globally from 29th October.

Adapted by Rowan Joffe (28 Weeks Later) from Lawrence Osborne's novel, the film follows Farrell's Lord Doyle — a high-roller with dangerous secrets — who encounters a mysterious woman (Fala Chen) who might be his salvation or downfall. The stacked cast includes Tilda Swinton and Hong Kong cinema legend Deanie Ip.

Coming off his Emmy-nominated turn in The Penguin, Farrell headlines Berger's first project since the Oscar-winning All Quiet, with the director reuniting key crew including cinematographer James Friend and composer Volker Bertelmann. Early stills showcase Macau's glitzy underworld and Farrell's world-weary gambler.
