Netflix Has Only 1 Radical Way to Save 'The Witcher'

Toss a coin to the new Witcher. Is the show’s revival possible? There's one way out for Netflix. Here's what we think.

As much as there was a lot of potential with The Witcher adaptation, the show has gone off the rails a long time ago. Though it might look like a lost cause now, we've previously hinted at one way to bring some authenticity back to the series. Yet there's another, more obvious and radical solution.

‘The Witcher’ fix: a complete reboot with a fresh creative team. It can happen in these 4 ways:

Option 1: Continue The Story But With Fresh Creative Vision

The main idea: Netflix could keep going from where they left off, but bring in a fresh team with better vision.

This option has its challenges, though. The new team would either have to clean up the current mess before moving toward better storytelling, or they'd have to pretend the previous mistakes didn't happen. The second approach is super risky and probably wouldn't work, so we can cross that one off.

Option 2: Complete Reboot With ‘The Witcher’ Book-Accurate Adaptation

The most radical solution for The Witcher is to start from scratch. New directors, new writers, new everything behind the scenes. This means redoing the entire story, but this time actually respecting what made the books special. Sure, it's a big move, but considering the state of the show, they need to tear it all down to build something worth watching.

Option 3: Adapt 'The Witcher' Games Instead Of The Books

Why not forget the books and adapt the games? Start with Geralt waking up with amnesia (just like in the first game) and build from there.

The games are already super popular, even among folks who never read the books. This approach gives the show a fresh start while using material that's already proven to work for wider audiences.

Option 4: Create Something Entirely New in ‘The Witcher’ Universe

The show tried to deal with too many storylines and ended up pushing Geralt to the sidelines. Big mistake.

Instead: they could create a brand new protagonist who fits naturally into The Witcher world. This character could occasionally cross paths with familiar faces like Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer, but would bring their own fresh perspective to the universe. Or they could focus on an already-existing character in the franchise.

We've seen it happen with Arcane and Fallout already, so why not create something special in The Witcher world?

Do you think rebooting ‘The Witcher’ would be a good idea?
