If you're looking for impeccable drama and 100% realism, you might want to skip this show.

On June 18, Netflix released I Will Find You, another adaptation of a novel by Harlan Coben, a master of twisted detective stories.

The series has already become a hit on Netflix, but critics and viewers are divided. Some call it incredibly watchable, others call it a ridiculous failure. Here, we explore what works and what raises questions in this project.

What Is 'I Will Find You' About?

David Burroughs has served five years of his life sentence for the murder of his three-year-old son, Matthew. He maintains his innocence but has become so despondent that he hasn't received a single visitor.

Everything changes when Rachel, the sister of David's ex-wife and a former journalist, arrives at the prison. She brings a recent photograph in which David sees a boy who looks remarkably like Matthew.

In order to find him, David escapes from prison with the help of a police officer friend. Together with Rachel, he tries to solve the case. They gradually realize that corrupt police officers, the mafia, and even David's father's organization are involved.

'I Will Find You' Relies on Intrigue and a Stellar Cast

The main strength of I Will Find You is its captivating nature – even if you notice plot holes, you're still drawn in by the next episode. The writers masterfully build suspense by gradually introducing new details and expanding the scope of the conspiracy.

The project also boasts an impressive cast, including Avatar and Severance stars Sam Worthington and Britt Lower.

The script is full of twists, and the finale evokes the emotions you'd expect from Coben. Additionally, this is the writer's first Netflix project set in the United States, making it unique in the lineup of adaptations.

Although 'I Will Find You' Has Its Fair Share of Ridiculous Coincidences, It's Still a Gripping Watch

I Will Find You is far from perfect – it drags at times, and some plot lines feel contrived because they rely too heavily on coincidences and strange motives. The central premise is particularly questionable – how can a boy identified by DNA be alive?

Additionally, despite his efforts, Sam Worthington struggles to hide his Australian accent. Britt Lower, on the other hand, seems to be in a different show altogether – her character is far more nuanced and layered than the script deserves.

I Will Find You is a controversial yet gripping thriller, perfect for those who enjoy turning their brains off. If you can overlook the logical contortions and absurd coincidences for the sake of a dynamic plot and intrigue, you'll enjoy this series.

What Did Critics & Viewers Think of 'I Will Find You'?

  • I Will Find You has 65% from critics and 58% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

  • On IMDb, the series has a score of 7.3/10.
