One of the best detective shows of the recent years is saved by Netflix.

Summary:

  • The first season of the series was released on Max, but then it dropped the show
  • Netflix, however, picked it up, releasing season 2 on February 29.
  • In the show, Jamie Dornan loses his memory in a car accident and tries to remember who he is with the help of a local police officer.

When The Tourist premiered on Max in 2022, its final episode seemed like the perfect ending to a dark detective story. The story about a man's journey through the Australian wilderness with amnesia was a thrilling show that combined mystery, and dark humor.

The Tourist Moved from Max to Netflix

Although the showrunners and lead actor Jamie Dornan insisted that the show wasn't intended to run for more than a single season, critical praise and impressive ratings have demonstrated that there is still enough of story to be told. The Tourist's second season, which Max had previously dropped, had its Netflix release on February 29.

What is The Tourist About?

In the middle of the vast Australian wilderness, Elliot Stanley (Jamie Dornan) is involved in an unexpected and tragic car chase. The next day, he finds himself in a local hospital hundreds of miles from the car accident, unable to remember himself or the purpose of his arrival.

Even the local police officer, Helen Chambers, is unable to help him, and after finding no clear information about the victim, she agrees to take on the mystery. Helen is eager to succeed in the detective field, so establishing the identity of a mysterious amnesiac patient becomes a matter of utmost importance to her.

The Tourist is a Fast-Paced, Suspenseful Detective Story

Chances are that the story will grab you in the first few minutes. All the ingredients are there: crime, amnesia, a bag of millions, passion, gunshots, car chases, fascinating landscapes, a crazy drug lord and, of course, unexpected plot twists – already in the first episode, an unknown person calls Dornan's character and asks him to dig him out of the ground.

Little by little, Elliot regains his memory, but he can't understand why some people want to kill him. The fact that the main character does not really understand anything and tries to find out the truth keeps the plot dynamic.

New answers lead to new questions, and new memories lead to new discoveries, some of which are not so good for Elliot.

If you miss exciting detective stories, or if you like memory games, then The Tourist will be your binge-watch got a few evenings.

In addition to the plot, there is really something to see: the mesmerizing Australian landscapes, as well as Jamie Dornan in a charismatic image reminiscent of the days before Fifty Shades of Grey, when he looked like one of the most promising British actors.
