True crime enthusiasts have a new show to binge.

No matter how many crimes are committed because people are inspired by what they hear on various true crime podcasts, the genre remains extremely popular. Millions of people get their thrills from real-life stories and dive deep into the minds of murderers through their psychological portraits.

Only Murders in the Building isn't the only show that depicts fans of the genre facing real-life mysteries, but it's safe to say it's the most popular. Starring A-list celebrities like Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Meryl Streep and Cara Delevigne, the show has been unparalleled for the past 3 seasons. But now things might change.

What Bodkin Is About?

To say that May is packed with Netflix premieres would be an understatement. There are many different original series premiering for the first time or returning with new seasons this month, and Bodkin is one of them.

Like Only Murders in the Building, Bodkin takes a deep dive into the true crime podcast culture that has swept the Internet in recent years. There are a few differences, though.

First of all, the Netflix show is more of a dark comedy, so you can expect a good dose of edgy Irish humor. Second, the podcast enthusiasts aren't just the fans in this story. Instead, they are creators, hungry for the truth and confident that they can investigate the mysterious disappearances themselves.

The cast is led by Will Forte as Gilbert Power, a podcaster who came from the U.S. to explore his Irish roots, Robyn Cara as Emmy, his podcast assistant, and Siobhán Cullen as Dove, an investigative journalist from Dublin.

Considering the comedic backgrounds of the cast, including Forte's most notable work as a Saturday Night Live alum, Bodkin is poised to be the best true crime parody in years. Knowing how well Netflix handled another of its Irish hits, Derry Girls, there is no doubt that Bodkin will be just as entertaining.

Bodkin will consist of 7 episodes, all premiering at once on Thursday, May 9, 2024. So all those fans of Hulu 's murder mystery hit who are now waiting for the upcoming season 4 will have something to binge on in the meantime. If Bodkin is successful, it might as well compete with Only Murders in the Building next awards season.
