It would seem that not everything from the Netflix version of the show is lost.

Daredevil: Born Again, an upcoming TV series created by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, continues to reintroduce characters from its Netflix predecessor.

First, it was announced that Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio would reprise their roles as Daredevil and Kingpin, respectively, much to the delight of fans of the original series.

After their debut in the Netflix series, which was technically part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be a long time before both had their status fully confirmed.

Cox's Daredevil made a cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and D'Onofrio's Kingpin was the antagonist of the Hawkeye TV series that same year.

And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, they will be joined by Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. Bernthal first donned the character's bulletproof vest in the second season of Netflix's Daredevil in 2016.

His portrayal of the iconic, uncompromising, gun-wielding vigilante was warmly received by fans, who praised his scenes as a highlight of the season.

He later got his own Netflix series, which ran for two seasons (2017-2019) and was praised for its action that pushed the boundaries of Marvel's TV universe at the time.

While fans are excited to see Jon reprise his role, they are skeptical about the tone of the show. The original Netflix series featuring Daredevil and The Punisher were praised for their dark atmosphere and brutal fight scenes.

The prison sequence with The Punisher from Daredevil's second season was particularly gruesome and bloody. So it remains to be seen how Disney will integrate such a ruthless character with a penchant for firearms into a non-R-rated show.

As Jon said in his 2021 interview: "I think if there's any let up on that character, you do a disservice to the character, to every iteration of the character, to every comic book that's come before, and to all of the unbelievable fans of the character."

Daredevil: Born Again will be based on the comic book storyline of the same name, although it is obvious that it will be adapted, as The Punisher did not appear in the comic.

Principal photography for the series began on March 6 in New York.
