New Spy Kids Movie is On the Way, But What Happened to OG Cast?
Spy Kids turned child actors into some of the biggest stars of the 2000s, but their careers aren't nearly as successful these days.
In 2001 the first installment of Spy Kids was released. The blockbuster immediately became the leader of the box office and received a sequel. In total, 4 installments of Spy Kids have been released.
Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara became superstars and received many offers for new projects, but today their names are not so well known. On the eve of the release of the reboot Spy Kids: Armageddon, we tell you what happened to the original cast.
Alexa PenaVega
Alexa played the role of Carmen Cortez. The girl was so passionate about the process that she did all the stunts by herself. The role of Carmen was not the first for the actress. She had previously appeared in popular movies, but Spy Kids brought her real fame.
After Spy Kids, one of the most memorable roles of the actress was KillJoy in the Robert Rodriguez movie Machete Kills. Recently, the actress has been filming mostly melodramas – A Paris Proposal, Taking a Shot at Love, Christmas Made to Order.
Daryl Sabara
Daryl played Carmen's younger brother Juni – he was only 10 years old when the first movie was filmed. But before that, Sabara had already took part in big projects like Friends.
Participating in a popular movie had a positive effect on his career. After starring in Spy Kids, the actor appeared several times in TV series in episodic roles – in House, M. D., Criminal Minds and Wizards of Waverly Place.
The last major projects of the actor were the series Project Blue Book, Resident Advisors, as well as the horror movie Teen Lust.
Matt O’Leary
Matt took part in the second and third Spy Kids movies – he became the love interest of Carmen.
The movie Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire, in which he played in 2000, opened the actor's path to fame. Matt is also known for his roles in movies such as Frailty and Death Sentence.
Recently, he played in the show Project Blue Book and the action movie Skyscraper with Dwayne Johnson.
Emily Osment
The actress rose to fame playing the role of Gerti Giggles in the second and third installments of Spy Kids.
After Spy kids, Osment went on to star in the TV series Hannah Montana.
In recent years, the actress has starred in several series such as Pretty Smart, Almost Family and The Kominsky Method. But the most notable project of Emily is Young Sheldon, where she played Mandy McAllister.
