Apparently, the story will go in a new direction compared to the previous movies, which will hopefully improve Rey's character.

Summary:

  • The untitled Rey movie stands out from other upcoming Star Wars films as a fairly risky endeavor
  • Daisy Ridley mentioned that the movie will take a different approach to the story than its predecessors
  • This change may actually be for the better, solving some of the sequels' problems and giving Rey the Anakin Skywalker treatment

After the rather controversial reception of the prequel trilogy, the cinematic branch of Star Wars was once again thrown into obscurity, as it has been over three years since the release of Episode IX and the franchise has shifted its focus to the TV shows.

Not long ago, however, a slew of new films set in the galaxy far, far away were announced, leaving fans holding their breath and wondering if they will restore dignity to Star Wars or cause even more backlash.

Continuing The Story Of Star Wars Sequels Is A Risky Move

One of the most interesting new projects is the untitled film about Rey, once again portrayed by Daisy Ridley, trying to rebuild the Jedi Order, as making a direct successor to the sequels is quite a risky move compared to the more "safe" other upcoming films.

Still, aside from the vague synopsis, very little is known about the movie's plot, leaving fans to carefully follow every breadcrumb of information that pops up here and there.

In a recent interview with AlloCiné, Daisy Ridley revealed what made her want to return to the franchise, mentioning that as soon as she learned what the movie was about, she knew it was something she wanted to do.

Specifically, the actress mentioned that the film will take a different approach to the story than previous installments, while still being a great exploration of the Star Wars universe.

Rey May Get The Anakin Skywalker Treatment

While this new update is rather vague, it might suggest that even those fans who didn't enjoy the sequel trilogy in the slightest should at least give the upcoming movie a chance, as apparently things might be different this time around.

Those movies can be criticized for a lot of things, but the acting is definitely not one of them, as all of the actors delivered pretty solid performances, even if some of the characters ended up being ruined by questionable story choices.

Of course, it won't automatically solve all the problems that came along with the sequels, but maybe a new approach to the story will actually improve Rey's character and change the minds of those fans who didn't like her in the first place.

After all, a similar situation recently happened with Hayden Christensen, as his performance in the Ahsoka TV series proved that much of the initial backlash against his portrayal of Anakin in the prequels was not the actor's fault, but rather due to bad writing.

No official release date has been announced.
