Stephen King is one of the most adapted authors of all time. By the time we finished writing that first sentence, somewhere in the world production began on three more live-action adaptations of King’s stories, and that’s just how it goes: the writer has been incredibly productive over the decades, and people love watching his scary tales unfold on big and small screens.

Speaking of which, another Stephen King adaptation will soon be released, and its director teases the audience with the most captivating promises.

The Life of Chuck Is So Much More Than We Expect

Mike Flanagan is known for his passion for the horror genre, both as an actor and as a director. Mike Flanagan has already worked on Stephen King adaptations: Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining, was his doing.

Now, Flanagan took on The Life of Chuck, and the post-production on the movie has already concluded, meaning the director is ready to share his latest work with the world.

“It's beautiful. You think, ‘Oh, Mike Flanagan, Stephen King, this thing’s going to just be the most horrifying, terrifying, thing you've ever seen.’ [But] it is so beautifully rendered, heartfelt — the drama, the performances… The cast in this is deep. <...> There’s so [many] great people! Ah, what a joy,” Flanagan shared with Gizmodo.

The Life of Chuck Is No Ordinary Horror

While Stephen King is often called the King of Horror, he’s far more versatile as an author. The Life of Chuck proves it: this novella, originally part of the If It Bleeds collection, follows a man’s journey through his life, but with a peculiar twist.

Chuck, the protagonist, dies of a brain tumor at 39 and before his death, he revisits the most important events of his life in reverse order. Together with him, the reader (and soon, the viewer) embarks on a years-long journey that ends in a haunted house where little Chuck first learned about his terrifying fate when he was a kid.
