No Oscar Glory for Dylan — But the Chalamet–Mangold Duo Seems Back, and I Hope It Hits This Time

Quiet buzz now, but the setup sounds oddly sharp.
Timothée Chalamet is one of those actors I find genuinely interesting to follow. So when I saw the news about a possible new project with director James Mangold, I had to take a closer look. And honestly — it’s not the kind of project you just scroll past.
Their last film together, A Complete Unknown felt oddly overlooked. It earned eight nominations but left without a single win — a bit of a shame, really. A thoughtful performance, solid direction — yet somehow, it didn’t stick.
This time, things feel different. The new project, High Side, is a crime thriller currently being pitched to studios. It’s a crime thriller about Billy, a former MotoGP prodigy who now runs a garage and looks after his father.
Things get messy when his brother — on the run from the FBI — shows up with a plan: a string of bank robberies using superbikes.
It’s fast, gritty, and a far cry from their last collaboration.
Chalamet isn’t officially signed on yet — he’s still filming Dune 3, and Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie, is due in December. Mangold, meanwhile, has a full plate: Swamp Thing for DC, a Buster Keaton biopic, a Star Wars film, Juliet (inspired by Shakespeare), and a top-secret project for Netflix.
Will High Side actually happen? Too soon to tell. But I like the shift in tone — it’s sharp, strange, and just risky enough to work.
