Apparently, the Jon Snow spin-off is not coming soon: the HBO CEO shared a disappointing update for all those who wished to see some Snow this Christmas.

Summary:

  • Multiple Game of Thrones spin-offs are being discussed at HBO, including a Jon Snow sequel series.
  • The HBO CEO Casey Bloys recently shared that the only greenlit show is the Dunk and Egg spin-off.
  • Despite Bloys’ claims, George Martin himself previously confirmed that SNOW was being worked on.

After the overwhelming success of Game of Thrones, it was only right that HBO didn’t want to let go of George Martin’s magical, dangerous, and extremely profitable world of Westeros. The first prequel series, House of the Dragon, came out not long after the finale of Game of Thrones — but the others are stalling…for now.

What Game of Thrones Spinoffs Are Considered?

Good folks over at HBO are working tirelessly coming up with ideas for new spinoffs and prequels to Game of Thrones. Apart from the widely acclaimed House of the Dragon that’s already making its second season, there are a plethora of other projects currently in discussion or drafting stages, including some rather intriguing ones.

Based on the legendary historical figures of Westeros and standalone George Martin stories, there are over a dozen potential spinoffs in total. So far, the only one that was 100% greenlit by HBO is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the show following Dunk and Egg from GRRM’s separate novellas.

But one of the most fan-requested spinoffs revolves around Jon Snow, one of the main Game of Thrones characters. The show called SNOW is the talk of the town.

What’s the Weather Forecast in Westeros?

Long story short: No sign of SNOW. For now, at least.

The HBO CEO Casey Bloys recently revealed the current state of Game of Thrones’ spinoff approval, and SNOW was not one of the shows she mentioned. In fact, she only named one series as already greenlit, claiming that no other show is even close to getting into the pre-production stage at this point.

“We always have Game of Thrones scripts in development. We greenlit Dunk and Egg in the spring. I wouldn’t say there is anything else in that world that is close to a green light or anything, but we are always working on different scripts and ideas,” Bloys shared with TVLine.

Do They Let It SNOW — or Not?

Despite Casey Bloys’s statement about no show other than Dunk and Egg being greenlit over at HBO, George Martin himself previously stated that the Jon Snow spinoff was being worked on, and Kit Harrington was deeply involved already. The author shared this news in his Not a Blog back in 2022.

So there’s no reason to worry: SNOW will come. Even if not this winter, then the next one. It’s just a matter of time; the Long Winter almost comes sooner or later.
