One of the Most Iconic Dark Fantasy Anime With 91% on RT Is Set to Receive a TV Adaptation

Dark fantasy anime is one of the most beloved genres among fans, so when they hear of plans to adapt one of the most iconic works, they want the work to be done at the highest level.
If you liked Kentaro Miura's Berserk and wanted to read some similar manga later on, then you've definitely come across Claymore. And although this manga series started much later than 1989's Berserk, it has already ended: Claymore was published from 2001 to 2014 and collected in 27 volumes.
Norihiro Yagi's Claymore is one of the best and most important examples of dark fantasy in manga. It is a big, dynamic and bloody adventure with strong and touching heroines.
In 2007, an anime adaptation of the manga of the same name was released, which received 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and has become a cult classic over the years, along with Berserk.
Claymore Is Set to Get Adapted for TV
Now Claymore will get a TV incarnation – CBS Studio has announced plans to make a live-action series based on the Claymore manga. The project will be produced by Masi Oka, known for his role in the TV show Heroes.
A scriptwriter for the Claymore series is currently being sought, so it is too early to talk about a release date.
What Is Claymore About?
Humans wage an unequal war against the Yoma, demons that devour human brains and memories. The monsters are strong, cruel, and cunning; they can change shape and hide in crowds. No one can stand up to them in one-on-one combat.
To protect the common people, a special unit called Claymore was created, consisting of first-class half-breed female warriors with giant swords.
They were infused with Yoma blood from childhood, saturating their bodies with crushing energy. Clare is the weakest member of the unit, but she is destined to play a major role in the protracted confrontation.
Fans Have Big Concerns About Claymore Being Brought Into the TV Medium
News of live-action adaptations of manga and anime is always received with extreme caution by fans, and these concerns are especially high now given the number of failed anime TV series such as Death Note and Cowboy Bebop.
And in the case of Claymore, these concerns are more than justified: manga, especially in the second part of the story, is filled with various monsters that will most likely be created using CGI.
Reddit user ChickenFeats wrote:
“It's gonna be all about how the CGI looks. If the yoma look bad, the whole thing falls apart.”
Fans are afraid that the CGI design of the monsters and demons could be the main downfall of the series – it is unlikely that the adaptation of Claymore will have the same budget as House of the Dragon, where the flying reptiles look convincing thanks to millions of dollars spent on their design.
Claymore Needs High-Quality CGI to Become a Worthy Adaptation
Unlike The Witcher, for example, yoma and other monsters play a much bigger role in Claymore, making their design one of the most important parts of the adaptation, which will primarily affect whether the project will be successful.
Fans can only hope that the Claymore adaptation will be given a sufficient budget so that the creators do not end up with monsters similar to Dwayne Johnson 's character from The Scorpion King.
