One Piece is Locked for Season 2 Renewal, and Its IMDb Score Proves It
All signs point to it.
You may be among the cheering crowd that is ecstatic about the new One Piece live-action, or you may forever remain an OG manga fan, but you have to admit: the story of Monkey D. Luffy is taking the Internet by storm.
Spearheaded by creator Eiichiro Oda himself, the live-action is already hailed as one of Netflix 's best attempts at adaptation ever — which, let's be honest, is pretty good after the disastrous adaptations of Cowboy Bebop and Death Note.
Now, after a week of streaming, One Piece is already #1 on IMDb's popularity rank, beating Ahsoka, Who Is Erin Carter, and Suits. And the fandom believes that it is yet another proof of One Piece undoubtedly getting renewed for season 2.
Netflix remains tight-lipped when it comes to any official statements on One Piece renewal, but there are way too many sings pointing at the second season. First of all, One Piece garnered warm reviews from critics and fans alike; but more importantly (for Netflix), it tops the charts and performs extremely well.

Even though Netflix is yet to release the viewing hours data, everyone feels pretty optimistic about it, given the figures that we already have. As One Piece collects #1s like Infinity Stones, it's also good to remember that source material has plenty of stories to provide for as many seasons as Netflix could possibly want.
Besides, the first season has predictably ended on a cliffhanger, teasing more characters and more drama; Luffy is headed to the Grand Line with his crew stronger than ever, and his enemies have no intention of giving up.
One Piece's co-showrunner Steven Maeda described the mid-credits scene that apparently teased one of the original manga's most iconic villains, Smoker, as "a good mystery." He refused to confirm or deny whether the scene actually introduced us to Smoker.
He and his co-showrunner Matt Owens have already mapped out One Piece season 2, as he confirmed to Variety, but avoided hinting at any specific story details.
The only thing that might be preventing the network from greenlighting season 2 right now is the ongoing writers and actors strike, as Netflix is yet to strike a deal.
