One Piece: Will There Be a Season 3, Explained

Netflix has yet to officially renew One Piece for a third season, but comments from some of the cast members make it seem like a done deal. So what exactly is happening with Season 3?
The ending of the first season of Netflix's One Piece clearly hinted at a sequel, and the show was indeed renewed for a second season almost immediately after the first season's release.
However, anime fans remember that One Piece is one of the longest-running titles with more than 1,000 episodes and are already wondering – will the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy continue after the second season?
Joe Manganiello Revealed Season 3 Production Is Underway
Well, officially, the third season of One Piece on Netflix has not been confirmed yet, but thanks to some members of the cast, we can almost certainly say that there will be a third chapter.
New cast member Joe Manganiello, who will play the role of Crocodile, one of the antagonists, let slip in an interview with CinemaBlend that the third season is already in production:
“We've taken a break between season two and season three, so yeah, I'll be heading back later on this year, and we'll be working on the next part of the story. So that's about all I could say.”
Previously, Mackenyu Teased the Production of Season 3
In February of this year, Mackenyu, who played Zoro, teased that work on the third season was about to begin:
“The next project is going to be One Piece Season 2. We do have projects lined up for this year before we shoot Season 3 of One Piece, but I can't tell you anything about that.”
While Netflix has yet to officially announce a third season, it is safe to say that the resounding success of the first season of One Piece has secured not only a second, but a third season.
What Will Season 2 of One Piece Be About?
Eiichiro Oda has revealed the names of the arcs that will be adapted for Season 2 – Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden and Drum Island.
Loguetown is actually part of the East Blue saga that was revealed in Season 1. In this part of the story, Monkey D. Luffy and his friends will find themselves in the city of Loguetown. There they will replenish their supplies before continuing their search for the treasure.
In Loguetown, Luffy will encounter the evil Marine vice-admiral Smoker. The villain was shown at the end of Season 1 as a teaser for the second chapter.
Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden and Drum Island are part of the Arabasta saga. The Arabasta saga itself has not been announced for Season 2, but it is a very important part of the story.
At the same time, it is known that Nefertari Cobra, the ruler of the desert kingdom of Arabasta, will appear in Season 2.
The creators clearly intend to film Arabasta as well. This is a major storyline that apparently did not fit into Season 2 – perhaps the finale will hint at the events of this saga. It could be a brief scene with Cobra, in the spirit of Smoker's cameo at the finale of Season 1.
