Oscars 2025 Nominee With 97% RT Score Will Land on Max This Month

Some say Colman Domingo was robbed of an Oscar this year, and you might soon get a chance to see why.
This year’s seemingly predictable Oscar race has ended in quite a shocking way when Sean Baker’s Anora swept the ceremony, taking home 5 statuettes, including for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress.
However, some nominees remained deprived of well-deserved awards as it was predicted before, and the Colman Domingo-led acclaimed drama, sadly, was one of those too.
The movie, directed by filmmaker and screenwriter Greg Kwedar, received 3 nods from the Academy, but ultimately lost in all three categories; this, however, isn’t a reason for the film to go off the screen forever, especially since it’s now set to be released on Max this month.
Sing Sing Will Arrive on Max in March
Those who had no time to catch up with the Oscars ceremony can now add this year’s another nominee to their watchlist, a 2023 prison drama movie Sing Sing which will land on Max’s platform on March 21.
Set at the eponymous Maximum Security Prison, Sing Sing follows a group of prisoners finding some purpose in their own theatre, which is the only place where they’re free to be whoever they want and to do whatever they want.
When a wary outsider joins the group and suggests they stage a comedy instead of a teary drama, the theatre’s unspoken leader Divine G, incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit, has to find a way for all theatre cast and crew to come to an agreement before their so far imaginary comedy completely falls apart.
Sing Sing Features One of Colman Domingo’s Best Performances
The movie came in a shockingly original and refreshing format, adapting the real-life story with its real-life participants. Apart from Colman Domingo, who is the only professional actor in here, the rest of the cast comprises the men that used to belong to Sing Sing's theater group before they were eventually set free.
During the awards season, Sing Sing received many notable accolades, and even the movie’s supporting actor Clarence Maclin was acknowledged at the recent BAFTA ceremony, though, just like Colman Domingo at the Oscars, he didn’t grab the award.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is currently holding an impressive score of 97% from both critics and audiences.
