Fans are ready to share their warm welcome.

Summary:

  • Outlander is a historical drama television series that has been on the air since 2014.
  • In January 2023, Starz officially greenlit the prequel titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
  • The show will take viewers back in time and is now expanding its cast with more actors to portray young versions of already existing characters.

If you have been following the news about the Outlander prequel, you know that the series is already in a very active pre-production phase. As soon as the title was announced, all 4 main characters were revealed as well as the actors who will play them.

Blood of My Blood will follow two love stories in two different timelines, one focusing on Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, and the other on Claire's parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, with Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine portraying four young people on their romantic quests.

It was later announced that Tony Curran, best known for his roles in Defiance and Red Road, would be joining the series as Lord Lovat, Jamie Fraser's grandfather.

But the casting news wasn't over yet, and now Starz is ready to announce who will be playing the younger versions of the already known Outlander characters.

Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser

Known as Jamie's godfather and sworn protector, Murtagh was portrayed by Duncan Lacroix in the original series. He has a rich but tragic one-sided love story with Jamie's mother, Ellen, so he must have a very important role in the prequel. Murtagh Fraser will be played by Rory Alexander.

Dougal MacKenzie

A skilled and experienced warrior, Dougal is known to be rather emotional and hotheaded. Perfectly portrayed by Graham McTavish, the man could have been the leader of the clan, but had to settle for being a war chief. The dramatic events of his past will be further explored in Blood of My Blood by actor Sam Retford.

Colum MacKenzie

Colum, Douglas' older brother and the current leader of the clan, has not had it easy in the past, as many have judged his abilities based on the physical injuries he has suffered. However, with his quick wit and his younger brother's excellent battle skills, he was able to maintain his position. In the prequel series, Gary Lewis passes the baton to Seamus McLean Ross.

Ned Gowan

Ned Gowan, portrayed in Outlander by Bill Paterson, is MacKenzie's most trusted advisor on all things legal. His friendship with Colum and Dougal's father, Jacob, got off to a rocky start, but once they came to terms with their differences and Ned asked to join him on his journey, they became inseparable. Young Ned will be portrayed by Conor MacNeill.
