Paddington in Peru Finally Gets Netflix Release Date, But There’s a Catch

The live-action adventure franchise’s third movie grossed more than $180 million worldwide, paving the way for one more instalment.
Released back in 2014, the Paul King-directed comedy Paddington, based on Michael Bond’s eponymous character, has spawned two more sequels since, ultimately launching one of the most successful ongoing movie series.
The franchise’s latest instalment, Paddington in Peru, premiered last year and opened to one more wave of raving reviews from both critics and audiences, also becoming one of the biggest earners in the box office of the time.
The movie has so far reached several digital platforms, yet it still has to arrive on Netflix, which might be a big deal for those tracking new long-awaited arrivals in the streamer’s schedule.
However, even with Paddington in Peru’s set release date on Netflix, not everyone with the streamer’s subscription will be able to give it a watch.
Paddington in Peru Will Soon Be on Netflix, but Not Everywhere
Those who anticipated the movie’s arrival on the platform might not get it after all since Paddington in Peru is scheduled to be released on Netflix in the UK and Ireland only on April 8.
However, even if you’re lucky to use an account belonging to one of these countries, you will still likely want to refresh the entire story’s essential parts in your mind before moving on to the threequel.
Now directed by Dougal Wilson, Paddington in Peru sees the eponymous character deciding to go back to his roots and visit his motherland Peru where Paddington’s Aunt Lucy suddenly disappears.
With the whole Brown family joining him for the trip, Paddington seeks to find out the truth about Aunt Lucy’s mystery and what exactly it has to do with a legendary lost city.
Paddington in Peru Is a Worthy Continuation to the Franchise
Despite receiving a slightly less exciting critical score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes (compared to Paddington’s 96% and Paddington 2’s 99%), the movie offers a new and refreshing narrative, diving deeper into the background story of its titular character, exploring themes like national identity and forming a chosen family apart from the immediate one.
With Hugh Bonneville and Emily Mortimer reprising their roles, the movie also features Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas in Peruvian landscapes, adding some spice to its originally cozy and British-coded atmosphere.
Paddington in Peru’s imminent critical and commercial success paved the way for the franchise’s bright future as a fourth movie and a TV series are currently in the works.
