Peacock Pulls the Plug on 91%-Rated Horror Comedy With Bruce Campbell, Leaving Fans Outraged
No show is safe these days.
It's been three years since the last season of Stranger Things debuted. In an attempt to win over Netflix 's audience and create a hit, Peacock released a new show with a supernatural twist in 2024.
Hysteria! debuted in mid-October and managed to become a quality, multi-genre entertainment on the eve of Halloween. From slasher to teen drama, heavy metal to occultism and moral decay, the series embraces all the hallmarks of the 1980s.
Hysteria! Was Cancelled by Peacock After One Season
Hysteria! immediately caught the attention of viewers with the casting of Bruce Campbell, Ash from the cult horror franchise Evil Dead, in one of the roles.
This turned out to be more than just a ploy – Hysteria! was able to hold on to its audience, receiving 91% from critics and 87% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, neither high ratings nor stars in the lead roles could save Hysteria! from cancellation – it was recently announced that Peacock has axed the show and it will not see a second season.
Viewers Are Tired That Their Favorite Shows Are Being Axed One After Another
It seems that any project can end up in the shredder of streaming platforms these days – and fans are tired of it. Viewers are emotionally invested in really high-quality stories, wait for a new season, and in the end they get another cancellation.

“It was a great show. It’s annoying when streaming services order these good shows and then don’t follow through with them.”
Peacock recently canceled another horror series that received positive reviews from both viewers and critics – Teacup. The project from James Wan told the story of people trapped on a ranch who must unite against a mysterious threat.
What Was Hysteria! About?
1989, Michigan. A mysterious incident occurs in a small town: a teenager disappears in the middle of the night, and his mutilated body is soon found.
The public panics and demands that the infection of Satanism be eradicated from teenagers. Police chief Ben takes over the investigation of the murder: he is sure that the problem does not lie in the devil worshipers.
But there are those who use the incident to their advantage. A group of loser rockers called Dethkrunch – Dylan, Jordy and Spud – pretend to be Satanists so that teenagers will come to their first concert. The plan works: teenagers from all over the school come to the show, and Dylan's crush, Judith, finally notices the guy.
