Doctor Who’s actor may be a perfect match for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot — here’s what roles Peter Capaldi’s fans are dying to see him in.

HBO is currently getting things prepared for filming the first season of its Harry Potter TV reboot, which means there’s still hope that Peter Capaldi may join the cast anytime soon.

The actor, mostly known for the leading role in BBC’s sci-fi hit show Doctor Who, has long remained a subject of fan casting for Harry Potter’s next instalment, with fans speculating about potential roles that Capaldi might get after all.

Though it’s still early to know who will join the series in its future seasons, some believe the actor is the best option possible for these 5 roles — and HBO better take notes.

Rufus Scrimgeour

Rufus Scrimgeour doesn’t appear in the book and film series until Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince when he becomes Cornelius Fudge’s successor.

As described in J.K. Rowling’s novel of the same name, the character “looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows, he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp”.

Given that, some fans admitted there might be no one better than Capaldi for this role. “Considering that Scrimgeous is described as lion-like, YES TO THIS. SO MUCH YES TO THIS”, sunSummoner49616 wrote in a Reddit thread.

Phineas Nigellus Black

Phineas is vaguely mentioned throughout the story since he belongs to the Black family, being Sirius Black’s great-great-grandfather.

Though Capaldi does look similar to whatever fan art of the character that is out there, many insisted that the actor with a range of roles this wide shouldn’t get the entire story’s tiniest role.

“Don’t get me wrong, I love Capaldi and he’d be fun. I’d just rather see him in a much larger role than this”, Redditor DALTT suggested in another thread.

Garrick Ollivander

Despite not appearing in the books or movies for much either, Ollivander is still considered one of the best characters in the Harry Potter universe, all the while playing a major role in Harry’s pursuit of Horcruxes.

In the books, the owner of the wand shop in Diagon Alley is described as an old man with pale, silvery eyes, white skin and messy white hair — which is exactly what brought Capaldi to some fans’ minds.

“I could see him doing a cameo as Ollivander (which I know he was rumored for early on), but at least that role has some meaty scenes”, Redditor DALTT continued in the same thread.

Mad-Eye Moody

Even though Brendan Gleeson’s portrayal of Mad-Eye Moody is yet to be beaten by someone even more impressive, Harry Potter’s fans believe Capaldi could actually do it.

Described as a man with a growling voice and shocking appearance features like multiple scars, dark grey grizzled hair and an electric blue magical eye, Mad-Eye Moody might be the best choice for Capaldi considering the latter’s preferences for eccentric characters.

“I could DEF see that too! I had low key wanted Capaldi as Dumbledore. But now that that’s off the table, yeah he’d be a great Mad Eye, or a great Ollivander too, which I know the trades said they were after him for (though I’d like to see him in a larger role than Ollivander)”, DALTT shared in a different thread.

Lord Voldemort

No need to explain much here — just like Harry Potter movies’ villain Ralph Fiennes, Peter Capaldi is also an actor versatile enough to become the upcoming show’s most terrifying wizard.

“Capaldi can bring the gravitas, the intensity, the quiet terror, all required to play the dark lord. He's the right age to play Voldemort (67) and also happens to be one of the finest working actors in the world”, Redditor Ruby-Shark explained in a thread.
