Prepare for Aemond Targaryen’s Most Brutal Moment in ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3
Ewan Mitchell’s unhinged character in House of the Dragon is going full throttle into the imminent war in season 3, and there will be consequences for him too.
There’s no George Martin show without all kinds of battles between people and dragons, with one of the most epic ones now saved for House of the Dragon’s upcoming season 3.
Started back in 2022, the show had quite an uneventful second season last year, resulting in major backlash for wasting fans’ time for months, but House of the Dragon’s next instalment has already been confirmed to feature the upcoming Dance of Dragons’ most important clashes — and most important deaths too.
In fact, the war between the Blacks and the Greens leaves quite few Targaryens alive in George Martin’s “Fire & Blood”, with Aemond Targaryen having probably the most disgusting death ever.
How Will Aemond Die in ‘House of the Dragon’? (Heavy Spoilers Ahead!)

Though we can’t know for sure whether the show’s creators followed the original book’s plot closely or not this time, it’s likely that Ewan Mitchell’s Aemond will get the same fate as his counterpart in “Fire & Blood”.
According to George Martin’s novel, Aemond dies during the Battle Above the Gods Eye when he gets into a face-to-face duel with Daemon Targaryen.
With both clashing while riding their dragons, Aemond and Daemon fight until their dragons Vhagar and Caraxes are severely wounded, and that’s when Daemon reaches out to Aemond, stabbing him in his only good eye with a sword.
Alongside their dragons, the two fall into the lake below; Aemond dies instantly while Daemon’s body is never found afterwards.
‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Will Feature Almost 20 Characters’ POV

While there’s still several months left until the show’s new instalment lands on HBO Max, House of the Dragon’s showrunner Ryan Condal keeps teasing fans with new exciting details which kinda prove that the upcoming season won’t be a disappointed (fingers crossed).
As Condal revealed during an episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast several months ago, House of the Dragon’s third season will delve into many characters’ psychology, presenting the events from their own point of view.
“We have 19 point-of-view characters in the show, and when we say point-of-view it means a character [who] can have their own scene without another one of the characters in it. It's exciting, cause it's a lot to service, and it gives you a lot of opportunity to do those recombinations...It also demonstrates and dramatizes the sprawl and breadth and scope of this epic story that we're telling”, Condal said.
House of the Dragon’s season 3 is expected to be released on HBO Max sometime in the summer of 2026.
