Another proof that Tarantino is a huge fan of old classics and his own masterpieces.

Quentin Tarantino’s movies might not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s true that, whenever the iconic director starts reflecting on a movie or a show’s value, one just can’t help listening.

Having spent his younger years working in a tape store in California, Tarantino has seen pretty much everything that the shop’s collection had, gaining not only some practical knowledge about moviemaking, but also several more titles in his own list of favorites.

Until now, Tarantino has cited tens of movies that he really likes, though not all of the made it to becoming the top of the list — which, by the way, also has some of his own epic films.

Despite getting alone pretty well with younger audiences too, Quentin Tarantino still prefers old-school tricks of making movies that he learned from the most prominent directors in the world, getting some inspiration from those films for his own projects.

In any list of the director’s favorites, Sergio Leone’s cult Western The Good, the Bad and the Ugly holds the number one spot, with Tarantino himself repeatedly admitting that he considers Leone the best filmmaker that ever existed.

"You don’t go past Leone, you start with Leone. I would go even as far as to say that [Leone] is the greatest combination of a complete film stylist, where he creates his own world, and storyteller”, Tarantino revealed in his own essay (via The Spectator).

Apart from that, the list also includes movies like Rio Bravo, Blow Out, Taxi Driver, His Girl Friday, Five Fingers of Death and many more.

This was actually revealed more recently during Tarantino’s appearance on The Church of Tarantino podcast hosted by Scott K.

Talking about his own ranking of directorial works, the director said he had always preferred Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood with Leonardo DiCaprio to others, despite considering Inglourious Basterds his best movie.

At the same time, Tarantino didn’t shy away from admitting that he might have been the only director who could have ever made Kill Bill.

“I think Kill Bill is the ultimate Quentin movie. Like nobody else could've made it. Every aspect about it is so particularly ripped, like with tentacles and bloody tissue, from my imagination and my id and my loves and my passion and my obsession. So I think Kill Bill is the movie I was born to make”, Tarantino added.
