They feel that bringing back Frances Neagley will make the show repeat the mistakes of season 2.

Summary:

  • The third season of the Reacher TV series is in the final stages of production
  • Backed by great source material, it is expected to take the show back to its roots and set Jack on a solo adventure
  • But fans are concerned that the inclusion of Frances Neagley in the story will lead to the same problems for which season 2 was criticized

Although the second season of Reacher ended only a month ago, the third season of the show is already approaching its release, as the production process is currently just a few steps away from completion.

Given the rather controversial reception of the second season, which didn't prevent it from becoming massively popular, the show's creators have a huge responsibility on their shoulders not to repeat the same mistakes.

So far, the evidence suggests that they have taken the criticism into account, as season 3 will supposedly return the show to its roots, taking Jack on a classic "lone wolf" adventure in the best traditions of season 1.

Persuader, the novel it will be based on, is considered one of the best in the entire series, which at this point includes 28 installments, and follows Reacher on a quest for revenge.

There Will Be at Least One Deviation From the Original Novel

However, there is a potential red flag regarding the upcoming new chapter in Jack's story that has led some fans to believe that the show's creators are about to make a huge mistake.

It has been confirmed that Maria Sten will reprise her role as Frances Neagley, Jack's longtime comrade with whom he served in the military, in season 3, despite the fact that the character was absent from the original novel.

Fans are concerned that this will make the supposedly "solo adventure" far less "solo," since when his teammates are around, Jack seems less confident, less resourceful, and less of the intimidating force he should be.

Jack is at His Best When He is Alone

The character is at his best when he is alone, so when his friends come into the picture, instead of enhancing the existing traits of Jack's personality, they make him less interesting, as Reacher is reduced to the "muscle" of the team.

One of the main points of criticism of the second season was that it relied too much on the camaraderie aspect, so bringing Neagley back does indeed seem like a questionable decision.

On the other hand, it's just one character, and her presence may not have the same negative effect, since it's not like Jack's entire team from season 2 is making a comeback.

Either way, fans will know the outcome of this decision soon enough, as Reacher season 3 is expected to premiere sometime in late 2024 or early 2025, although no official release date has been announced.
