Bridgerton Season 1 catapulted Regé-Jean Page to stardom. But the actor is determined never to return, even though it is not an easy decision.

Fans still can't get over the steamy romance between the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne, and the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset. Saphne (Simon & Daphne) quickly gained a huge following around the world.

Their story ensured the show's success and its renewal for at least three more seasons.

And that was largely due to the enigmatic performance and incredible chemistry of the stars, Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page. However, in anticipation of Season 2, fans were shocked to learn that Regé-Jean Page had left the show for good.

Of course, the story based on Julia Quinn's novels focuses on a new couple each season, but it would still be nice to catch up with Saphne every now and then.

Page revealed to Vanity Fair that the decision to exit Bridgerton was pretty simple: he had a one-season contract and did one season, then he moved on to other projects.

But this simple decision was not an easy one to make. The temptation to continue the story was strong. Once you've found the gold mine, it's not easy to let go. But Page said he "enjoyed the striving," so moving on must have been a natural thing for him.

"[After] we finished the story, the temptation would be to roll with the distractions and go, 'Oh, well, the story went really well, so we can kind of change this up and make some other stuff up, I guess.' That was never what we'd signed up to do," the star explained.

With Page's departure, Bridgerton didn't drop Saphne entirely. Daphne appeared in Season 2 with her adorable newborn, and the Duke of Hastings was mentioned more than once.

But it seems that Season 3 will have too many storylines, and there will not be enough screen time even for Phoebe Dynevor.

However, fans are still hopeful that the beloved couple will be on the show in the future, and Page told Variety that he would be fine with the show's creators recasting Simon should the need arise.

So viewers still have a chance to see the beloved character, but unfortunately he will not have the face of Regé-Jean Page. The actor is adamant about this.
