Following its theatrical release, Netflix will add a major hit to its library in December. The third installment of the Knives Out detective franchise, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, is coming to the platform.

Critics and viewers alike have hailed this movie as the best in the series, finally realizing the full potential of Rian Johnson's vision and offering a truly captivating mystery.

The story unfolds in a small town in upstate New York where an "impossible" murder occurs in the sacristy of a local church.

Monsignor Jefferson Wicks is found dead in a locked room, and his young assistant, Reverend Jud Duplenticy, is the only suspect, as the two had an open conflict.

Believing the priest is innocent, the local sheriff calls on the legendary detective Benoit Blanc for help. Together with Jud, Blanc immerses himself in the parish's life.

'Wake Up Dead Man' Is the Best 'Knives Out' Installment So Far

After the rather formulaic and chaotic second installment, the third chapter is a welcome change of pace. Inspired by Agatha Christie's classics, Rian Johnson focused on solving the puzzle meticulously this time.

Viewers receive all the clues they need to try to outpace the detective. The investigation is built on logic, analysis of clues, and clever thinking, not random luck as in the second installment.

Wake Up Dead Man masterfully maintains suspense by consistently revealing details and offering several inventive twists.

'Wake Up Dead Man' Has It All – Charismatic Characters, Gripping Intrigue, and a Unique Atmosphere

Daniel Craig is superb once again as the eccentric Benoit Blanc. This time, he is noticeably more involved in the proceedings and is perfectly paired with Josh O'Connor as the vulnerable priest.

The brilliant ensemble cast, which includes Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, and Kerry Washington, brings a gallery of colorful characters to life.

However, the real main character here is the atmosphere. The dark, gothic aesthetic of the small town, the tense relationships within the church community, come together to create the perfect detective story.

This is exactly the kind of detective movie we wanted from the franchise from the beginning – smart, stylish, and genuinely engaging.
