Ridley Scott’s 2021 Divisive Drama Is on Prime Video Now

The director based his highly acclaimed historical drama on a script from Hollywood’s most famous buddy duo Ben Aflleck and Matt Damon.
Ridley Scott ’s movies have always been a frequent object of all sorts of controversies, especially when it comes to the proclaimed director’s take on world history, but it didn’t restrain them from finding success no matter what.
Thanks to Scott’s most recent historical drama, a high-grossing sequel to his 2000 hit movie Gladiator, the filmmaker’s position has been redeemed a little, though some of his historically accurate and pretty compelling stories remain forgotten for no reason.
Luckily, one of those might have just got a second chance after joining the collection of movies on Prime Video.
You Can Now Watch The Last Duel on Prime Video
Ridley Scott’s fans with a Prime Video subscription now have another reason to give a rewatch to one of the director’s highest-rated dramas as The Last Duel, comprising a star-studded cast, has recently arrived on the streamer’s platform.
Starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer and Ben Affleck, the movie is based on Eric Jager’s 2004 bestselling book The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France and set in the midst of the Hundred Years War.
The Last Duel primarily follows the events that put French knight Jean de Carrouges and squire Jacques Le Gris against each other after the former’s wife Marguerite accuses the latter of raping her.
The tension rises high, with de Carrouges and Le Gris turning into bitter rivals after remaining good friends for years and Marguerite using all her courage to stand up to herself, an act which puts her life in great jeopardy.
The Last Duel Was a Box Office Disaster, but Also a Streaming Success
Still holding an impressive critical score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie was rightfully expected to perform well in the theatres worldwide, though things didn’t go according to plan, leading to The Last Duel bomb in the box office with only $30 million grossed against its $100 million budget.
However, a bigger success was waiting upon the film’s arrival on HBO Max back in 2022 as, within just one week of being available on digital platforms, The Last Duel turned into the second most watched movie across all major streamers in the US.
Apparently, the audiences grew fond of the film too, giving it a score of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.
