His career could’ve been completely different if that didn’t go well.

Every young actor prays for the role that will be his or her breakthrough, especially when there is a slim chance of getting the lead role in an extremely popular franchise that is almost destined to succeed. Twilight, for example, was a literary phenomenon that became a huge hit with teenage girls around the world in book form.

It was only fair to assume that the movie would do just as well.

You can imagine how high the stakes were for Robert Pattinson before he auditioned for the role that could literally change his life. Today, we can't imagine anyone else as Edward Cullen, but at the time, there could have easily been a different vision for the character. One that didn't involve Pattinson at all.

Not only did the actor have a rocky relationship with the Twilight fandom and the popularity of the franchise itself, but his audition almost turned out to be a complete nightmare. All because of some bad advice he got from his agent at the time.

“It was the scene when [Edward] had a guitar… my agent was like, ‘Take your guitar into the audition’. I just walked in and they were like, ‘Oh. You brought a guitar. Do you want to play us a song,’ and I was like, ‘No. This is the worst decision I ever made’. <...> My entire confidence just s**t the bed,” the actor explained in an interview with TODAY.

Fortunately, the audition only seemed so bad from his own perspective. The casting directors must have found the awkwardness charming enough to proceed with his candidacy for the role.

Although no one could know how many more challenges Pattinson would bring to the table, they certainly made the right choice.

If you are nostalgic for the beautiful vampire love story that is Twilight, you can re-watch all the movies in order on Netflix, Hulu Plus, or Paramount Plus.
