Andy Weir’s next adaptation isn’t coming to theatres until March next year, but it seems like the movie just nailed it all months before the premiere.

It’s not that hard to praise a yet unreleased movie now that Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey gets all the hype possible a year before its premiere, so no wonder Ryan Gosling’s next potential hit follows the suit.

Coming off the success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and David Leitch’s The Fall Guy, the actor is coming back to the screens in a new sci-fi adventure movie Project Hail Mary based on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name.

Even though the future film’s first trailer already gave the book’s fans hope for a worthy adaptation, Weir has just reassured everyone that it’s even better than we all expected.

The movie is yet to have a long path to the theatres worldwide next March, but the original book’s author has nothing but praise even now after seeing some parts of the upcoming movie.

“I've seen cuts of the film, and it's really good, guys. It's really good. These guys, they're amazing directors, everybody knows that. I couldn’t be happier with how things turned out”, Weir revealed at San Diego Comic-Con International which wrapped on July 27 (via ScreenRant).

Apart from that, Weir also hinted at the movie being in the production for longer than it was originally thought, with the team postponing the start for Drew Goddard, Project Hail Mary’s screenwriter.

“I couldn’t ask for better talent in every aspect… we waited for Drew… We had to wait several months for him to finish [the project he was working on]”, the writer added.

‘Project Hail Mary’ Is Reportedly 3-Hour-Long ‘Interstellar’-Like Space Epic

With Ryan Gosling returning to intergalactic journeys after Damien Chazelle’s First Man and “Project Hail Mary” taking after Weir’s previous hit book “The Martian”, it won’t be that surprising to see the movie becoming one of the biggest releases next year (maybe on par with The Odyssey).

Despite not being completely finished yet, Project Hail Mary reportedly had its first screenings a couple of months ago, with its first viewers comparing the movie to Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.

More than that, Project Hail Mary is also believed to be around three hours long if the final cut doesn’t make it any shorter eventually.

Project Hail Mary will be released in theatres worldwide on March 20, 2026.
